Colleagues,
Last week showcased William & Mary’s remarkable momentum as we welcomed the Board of Visitors to campus. In both the Academic Affairs and Student Success committees, discussions underscored the strength of the academic enterprise, the importance of a deliberate and thoughtful enrollment strategy, and the distinctive value of a W&M education. That momentum continued with SCHEV’s approval of William & Mary’s first engineering degree. The new BA/BS in bioengineering offers students mastery in an inherently interdisciplinary field bridging life sciences, physical sciences, and design. We anticipate welcoming students into the new degree program in Fall 2027.

This week’s shout out goes to our extraordinary faculty for earning national recognition that reflects the heart of William & Mary's mission. U.S. News & World Report ranks W&M #2 among public universities for undergraduate teaching and #8 among publics for undergraduate research—a powerful testament to the way our faculty seamlessly integrate teaching, scholarship, and mentorship. At the same time, W&M faculty rank first in Virginia (tied with UVA) for publishing in the top 25% of journals in their fields, demonstrating that world-class research and exceptional undergraduate education are mutually reinforcing strengths. Thank you for making William & Mary a place where students learn from scholars who are advancing knowledge every day.
