THIS WEEK AT CHRIST CHURCH, GEORGETOWN Wednesday, October 28, 2026
| |
| Parish Necrology: All are invited to add the names of loved ones who have entered into eternal life since All Souls’ Day (November 2) 2025 to the Parish Necrology, which will be read aloud during the Solemn Requiem Eucharist on Sunday, November 1, at 5:00 p.m. To do so, contact Parish Administrative Coordinator Tonika Hilliard by Thursday, October 29, at 12:00 noon.
All Saints’ Procession: On All Saints’ Day, November 1, the procession at the start of the 9:00 a.m. Eucharist will include the children, youth, and families of the parish – a beloved Christ Church tradition. Those who would like to participate are asked to gather in Keith Hall no later than 8:45 a.m. Questions? Contact Father Andrew Stump.
Solemn Requiem Eucharist on the Eve of All Souls’ Day: On Sunday, November 1, the Eve of the Commemoration of All Faithful Departed, at 5:00 p.m., the Choir of Christ Church and soloists, accompanied by a chamber ensemble, will sing Gabriel Fauré’s sublime Requiem Mass in D minor, Op. 48, within the context of the liturgy. The service will include a reading of the parish necrology. A reception will follow.
Family Night at Butler’s Orchard: Children and families are invited to join us at Butler’s Orchard on Saturday, November 7, at 5:30 p.m., for an evening of seasonal fun and fellowship, surrounded by the beauty of God’s creation. The evening begins with a hayride around the orchard, followed by hot dogs, donuts, cider, and s’mores around a cozy campfire. We will close our time together giving thanks to God as we pray Compline together under the stars. To register, click here.
Spiritual Parenting Course: How can you keep the promises you make at your child's baptism? Though we cannot determine what spiritual path our children will choose, we can model, communicate, and help them grow into an authentic Christian faith. Join seasoned parent Mother Tiffany Clark and her husband, Dr. Ernest Clark, for an interactive, honest look at what spiritual parenting does (and does not) look like. From attachment theory to training tips, this five-part series will delve into the theological and practical realities involved in helping children come to know, love, and be like Christ. Sessions will take place on Sundays, November 8, 15, and 29, and December 6 and 13, at 10:15 a.m., in Keith Hall. To register, click here.
Remembrance Sunday: On Sunday, November 8, at 11:15 a.m., we will observe Remembrance Sunday with an Act of Remembrance and Morning Prayer. Wreaths of poppies will be laid by representatives of the U.S. military and of other nations. Music will include choral anthems by John Ireland and Charles Villiers Stanford, as well as works for brass and organ. A reception, hosted by the British Embassy, will follow in the C. Boyden Gray Auditorium. Veterans are encouraged to wear uniforms and/or medals. Parishioners are asked to arrive early to ensure seating. All are welcome.
GMC Extends Volunteer Opportunity: Starting Monday, November 9, Christ Church will host GMC Extends nightly (Monday–Friday) for two weeks, offering hot meals and pastoral care to 30 guests each evening. Groups of 5-7 parishioners are encouraged to collaborate for one evening to provide 50 meals to vulnerable members of our community. Food may be home-cooked or store-bought. For more information, contact Father Andrew Stump. To volunteer, click here.
Veterans Day Dinner: On Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, at 6:00 p.m., all active-duty military personnel, veterans, spouses, and those who support our troops are invited to a formal mess dinner in the C.Boyden Gray Auditorium. The meal will be preceded by a brief Act of Remembrance in the Church. Dress is mess dress uniform/black tie. General admission tickets are $135 per person. Sponsorship tickets in support of the event and to help defray the cost for cadets are $270. To register, click here.
Camino Pilgrimage: Come, walk with God and fellow Christ Church pilgrims on an ancient path of prayer. Lined with stone crosses and chapels, and passing through verdant vineyards and medieval villages, the Camino de Santiago leads to a stunning destination and to a deeper life with God. This seven-day, 75-mile pilgrimage begins in Tui, Spain, and includes morning and evening prayer with daily reflections. The pilgrimage, led by Mother Meredith Kefauver Olsen, will take place May 23 to 30, 2027. The deadline for registration is December 20. For more information or to register, click here.

| Weekday Services: Public recitation of Morning Prayer (8:00 a.m.) and Evening Prayer (5:00 p.m.) takes place Monday through Saturday in the Chapel of Saint Jude. On Wednesdays, Morning Prayer is followed by a simple celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Additional volunteers are needed to share in the leadership of these brief services. For more information, contact Father Timothy Cole.
Centering Prayer: All are invited to participate in a weekly, community-led time of centering prayer and Lectio Divina on Tuesdays, from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m., via Zoom. Drawn from the monastic tradition, these practices offer an intentional way for individuals to make themselves available to God, acknowledging that “we do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us.” For more information, contact parishioners Lesley Lilly (713-805-5889) or Molly Peacock. To join the video call, click here.
Thursday Morning Bible Study: This fall, parishioners of all ages are invited to participate in an exploration of Genesis, a book which lays the foundation for the biblical narrative of God and his people. The next gathering will take place on October 29, at 8:00 a.m., in Keith Hall. For more information, contact parishioner Ernest Clark or Father Andrew Stump.
The Veterans Outreach Group: The first Veterans Outreach Group happy hour will take place on Thursday, October 29, 6:00 p.m., at the Army Navy Club’s Daiquiri Lounge. Jacket and tie are required. Veterans and active-duty members of the military are welcome. For more information, contact Father Timothy Cole.
Scripture Seminar: Led by the parish clergy and a team of visiting scholars, the Christ Church Scripture Seminar offers a book-by-book overview of the entire Bible, introducing participants to its history, literary structures, narrative arc, and theological themes. The next session, entitled Exodus: Liberation, Wilderness, and Divine Revelation, will take place on Sunday, November 1, at 10:15 a.m., in Keith Hall. It will be led by Mother Tiffany Clark. If you would like to prepare for the session, read Exodus 2-3, 12, 14, 19-20, 24-25 and watch the Bible Project video on the Exodus Way. For a complete schedule of upcoming topics, visit the parish website.
Bite-sized Bible Study: Originally intended for parents with small children, this group now welcomes all to participate in an exploration of the books of Kings. Sessions take place on Sundays, at 10:15 a.m., in the Memorial Room on the third floor of Linthicum Hall. Nursery care for infants and toddlers, as well as music formation classes for children ages 3 through 11, is available. For more information, contact parishioners Julia Ainsley, Megan Murton, or Matthew Fredericks.
Women’s Bible Study: Join Mother Tiffany Clark and a dynamic group of women as they tackle the Epistle to the Hebrews, a book which reflects back on the development of the pilgrim people of God in the Old Testament, offering a parallel interpretive commentary on what God was doing for them and, through Christ, what he is doing for us. The next gathering will take place on Monday, November 2, at 6:00 p.m., in the Memorial Room. A Zoom option is available. To view a brief introductory video, click here. To register, click here.
Choral Evensong: The next service of Choral Evensong will take place on Sunday, November 15, at 5:00 p.m., in the Church. The liturgy will include works by A. Herbert Brewer, Felix Mendelssohn, Henry Purcell, and Barry Rose. Evensong will continue on the first, third, and fifth Sundays of the month through May. A reception follows each service. Christ Church is one of a handful of parishes in the U.S. to offer this beautiful, quintessentially Anglican liturgy with such frequency. Do plan to join us… and bring a friend.
Thrift Shop Contributions Needed: The Christ Church Thrift Shop, located on the lower level of Linthicum Hall, is open each Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and on the fourth Sunday of each month, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in conjunction with the Parish Feast. Donations of unused or unwanted treasures are needed at this time: clothing, jewelry, antiques, china, glassware, household items, etc. Contributions are being accepted during the Thrift Shop’s normal hours of operation and by appointment at the Parish Office.
Altar Flowers: If you would like to make a contribution to help offset the cost of the flowers that will adorn the altar on a particular Sunday or feast day, contact the Parish Office. The Flower Guild accepts contributions in memory of the departed, in celebration of births, and in thanksgiving for the reception of Christian sacraments. Contributions marking private secular celebrations are welcome, but they will not be acknowledged in service leaflets or the Prayers of the People. In such cases, donors are encouraged to let loved ones know of their contribution with a greeting card. The suggested donation is $150.
