Events to Remember

Happenings at Penn

Lots of successful events took place at William Penn. Culinary Arts students decorated and sold chocolate-covered strawberries. Ag students also sold strawberries, so the fundraiser was berry successful! Also, the stage performance of Mamma Mia was a big hit. Theatrical students put on a must-see performance. Once again, William Penn hosted the largest school blood drive in the state and received great news coverage for their life-saving efforts. Click the links:

Oh, the Places She Will Go!

William Penn's Janella Roman has earned more than $1 MILLION in academic merit scholarships. While she hasn't made any final decisions, Janella has been accepted to more than 15 colleges and universities. Say congrats to this amazing college-bound scholar!.

Girl Power on Display at Southern

Guest readers for Southern's celebration of Women's History Month included Delaware First Lady Dr. Lauren Meyer, Wilmington police officers, veterinarian Dr. Stephanie Smalls, State Senator Nicole Poore, farmer Andrea Haritos, AKA sorority members, DOT Foods rep. Dr. Nakisha Bailey, and more. School Secretary Carmen Word invited 34 women from all walks of life to read books and talk to the Sharks about their experiences. While visiting Southern, Delaware Secretary of Education Cindy Marten (bottom right) was happy to take a picture with a group of girls and Dr. Bailey.  It truly was a month for the books!

Author Comes to New Castle

In keeping with Women's History and I Love to Read Month, New Castle Elementary School invited an author to visit the Spartans. Students were thrilled to hear Jaylene Clark Owens talk about her book, A Black Girl and Her Braids. During her visit, the author shared the inspiration behind her story and even danced with the kids. All K–2 students received a personalized, signed copy of her book to take home. WE inspire our scholars to read and learn!

Wilbur's Black History Showcase

The multi-purpose room was packed with Wildcats for a celebration of Black History. Students enjoyed showing off their displays and sharing what they learned.

WE Speak Up!

Kudos to our middle and high school students who participated in the annual Project Soapbox Showcase. The participants presented speeches about issues that matter to them. It all took research, development, and plenty of courage to speak publicly to students and educators from across New Castle County. WE are proud of our scholars!
