Landscaping work in progress along Terminal Avenue.
| Native Plantings In Progress
|
We’re working to convert large areas of turf into native plantings between Terminal Avenue and the Skokie Valley Trail, from Dempster Street to Niles Center Road.
Plants include: Common milkweed, white wild indigo, coneflower, wild bergamot, foxglove, smooth blue aster, sedges, and Canada wild rye.
Natural benefits: Native plantings support pollinators, reduce maintenance, and provide storm water benefits. The Village’s Environmental Sustainability Plan calls for replacing 8 percent of turf community-wide with alternative natives or other plants by 2030.

Help Ensure Water Quality: Participate In the Village’s Sampling Program
|
The Village is seeking 60 households interested in participating in a periodic water sampling program. The Illinois EPA helps ensure drinking water safety throughout the state by monitoring lead and copper levels.
Who’s eligible? Only homes with a lead water service line or lead materials in private plumbing may be eligible. Complete the water sampling program survey form to help the Village determine your eligibility.
What’s the process? Participants will be asked to provide water samples every six months. Village staff will deliver the required sample containers and provide instructions, and will return at a later date to collect the sample.
Why participate? Eligible, participating homes will receive water test results along with guidance, if needed, to reduce potential lead exposure.

In-house experts: Village of Skokie structural inspector Steve Klocko, electrical inspector Paul Hunsicker, and plumbing inspector Nick Orlic visited the class, bringing some of the tools they use in the field. All students received a building safety coloring book and a construction gear-clad rubber duck!
