Wisconsin’s top public university in student experience, social mobility

For the second consecutive year, UW-Whitewater retained the No. 1 ranking among Wisconsin public schools in student experience and social mobility according to The Wall Street Journal’s 2026 College Pulse rankings. Approximately 120,000 verified college students and recent graduates were surveyed.

Tuesday: Roberta’s Art Gallery reception

Celebrate bold, abstract watercolor and mixed media works by Wisconsin artist Woody Olsen at a special evening event. The reception on Tuesday, Oct. 7, begins at 6 p.m., followed by an open house from 7-8 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artist and explore the exhibit in a relaxed, welcoming setting. This event is free and open to the public.

Wednesday: Salute to Grads

Visit the UW-Whitewater Bookstore this Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Salute to Grads to prepare for graduation! Order your cap and gown, connect with campus departments, and shop alumni apparel and gifts. Plus, enjoy free light refreshments. As a special offer, purchase a diploma frame during the event and receive your cap, gown and tassel FREE. Can't make it? Order your items online.

Wednesday: OESH Career Fair 

Interested in a career in occupational safety, a profession in high demand with the highest average starting salary for UW-Whitewater graduates? Engage with approximately 60 employers to learn about internships and full-time job opportunities on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the University Center Hamilton Room. All students are welcome to attend.

Friday: Larson Family Lecture 

Join us this Friday, Oct. 10, from 4-5:30 p.m. in Timmerman Auditorium to hear Dr. Katie Eklund from UW-Madison speak about the Resilience Education Program, an intervention for students with social, emotional and behavioral concerns. Light refreshments will follow the presentation.

Deadline approaching: Apply to be a commencement speaker

Applications are open through Oct. 15 to audition for student commencement speaker. All those graduating in December 2025 are eligible to compete for this honor.

UW-Whitewater recognizes STEM Boot Camp students 

Eight Warhawks participated in the university's annual STEM Boot Camp, a pre-college program held each August to support incoming students interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

A total of 175 students at UW-Whitewater have been admitted to the Professional Education program as part of their journey toward entering the workforce as an educator.

Kudos to the Department of Social Work, which earned its reaffirmation of accreditation for both the Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work programs. Both programs were approved for another eight-year accreditation.

Kudos to Kristen Prock, associate professor of social work, whose 2018 co-authored article, “‘I still feel like I am not normal’: A review of the role of stigma and stigmatization among female survivors of child sexual abuse, sexual assault, and intimate partner violence,” published in the journal Trauma, Violence, & Abuse, just reached 25,000 downloads.

Spotlights

New major opens pathway to healthcare leadership jobs 

UW-Whitewater has partnered with members of the Wisconsin Technical College System to fill a vital workforce need in the region, creating the Health and Leadership Studies (HeALS) major for students with AAS degrees in allied health clinical or diagnostic fields. The degree can be completed fully online and is housed in the College of Letters and Sciences. HeALS »

Relive UW-Whitewater’s annual tradition of Warhawk family fun. Attendees enjoyed Willie’s Fun Zone, games, music and entertainment, food, tailgating, and more. Football fans packed Perkins Stadium for the Warhawk football team’s game against UW-La Crosse — the attendance of 20,167 is the second-highest for a game played on a campus in NCAA Division III history.
