OFFICE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR
FOR HEALTH SCIENCES
February 14, 2025
|
TO: Health Sciences and Health System Employees:
Dear Colleagues,
We continue to track recent federal announcements, executive orders and proposed policy changes that may impact the university. We recognize the rapid and evolving flow of information is difficult to keep up with and we’d like to provide an update of current efforts the university is taking and resources that will guide us through these changes.
|
Chancellor Khosla and University of California leadership are taking extraordinary steps to ensure coordinated efforts across all campuses and health systems. Moreover, there is unity in the higher education sector and with our association partners across many different states. Within Health Sciences, we have formed a steering committee to provide oversight and strategic decision-making related to the federal updates and their potential impacts.
Our government relations experts are advocating with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to protect UC San Diego’s priorities, mission and values. In coordination with the UC Office of the President, they have developed a targeted advocacy campaign to safeguard funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the future of scientific research.
|
- Help protect life-saving research by emailing your lawmakers.
-
Use this toolkit to advocate on social media and share your story about the impact of NIH-funded research. You can also invite others to join the campaign.
-
Share media inquiries you receive with your unit’s media contact or send them to marcom@ucsd.edu.

The following resources will be updated regularly and provide the most up-to-date information. We encourage you to check these frequently.
|
Your well-being is our #1 priority
|
Many within our community have expressed concern about the potential impacts and extensive reach of the recent federal announcements. At UC San Diego, our top priority remains the health and well-being of our employee, learner and patient communities.
|
This is an unusual situation for all of us, and the university offers supportive resources:
|
Amid the current disruption and uncertainty, we are deeply grateful for everyone in our Health Sciences community–each of you continues to advance health in extraordinary ways and remains true to our mission. Read the newest issue of Discoveries magazine, which explores the myriad innovations, discoveries and partnerships, as well as the collective spirit, that define the health sciences’ profound impact on the world. And today, on Valentine’s Day, we showcase our love and support of our amazing staff, faculty, students, researchers and clinicians on social media (example: School of Medicine LinkedIn post).

Sincerely,
