Skokie’s Storefront Storybook Tour Continues |
The Tour de Skokie continues through July 30 in Downtown Skokie.
Celebrate reading and cycling: Pick up a map card at Skokie Public Library to begin your page-by-page journey of “Ride Beside Me,” by Lucy Knisley. Oversized pages of the book are posted at 26 Downtown locations.

Last Chance to Apply: 2024 Citizens Fire Academy
|
Learn what it takes to be a firefighter! The Skokie Fire Department’s Citizens Fire Academy is an eight-week program providing classroom and hands-on instruction to familiarize you with fire department operations and training.

Apply: Complete the application by July 20. Space is limited; you must be 18 years or older. The program is free and open to those who live or work in Skokie.

Details: Meet once a week on Tuesday evenings, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Fire Station 17, 8157 Central Park Ave., beginning August 13.
- ‘Great experience:’ Program graduate and octogenarian Mort Feldberg shared his Citizens Fire Academy experience with WBEZ earlier this year.
