Nearly 900 December graduates will be recognized in UW-Whitewater’s annual winter commencement this Saturday, Dec. 13, at 10 a.m. at Kachel Fieldhouse inside the Williams Center. Graduates can pick up their commencement tickets (up to 7) with a photo ID at One Stop (UC room 129) this Monday-Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or at the Williams Center on Saturday. Saturday: Meal plan deadline
|
Meal plans end after lunch this Saturday, Dec. 13. Graduating or departing students should use all Purple Points, Dining Dollars, and meal swipes by that date. (Those with $5 or more in Purple Points can request an online refund.) Students returning for the spring semester will have unused Dining Dollars and Purple Points rolled over. Balances can be checked online or at the HawkCard Office (UC 250).

Kudos to students, faculty, and staff in UW-Whitewater’s Department of Kinesiology, who made an impact as attendees and presenters at the Wisconsin Health and Physical Education (WHPE) convention on Oct. 29-31 in Wisconsin Dells. UW-Whitewater partnered with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) to conduct a survey of state drivers to measure how many of them use car seat belts. The survey is designed and approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the results are reported to the organization. Fox 6 in Milwaukee published a feature on the latest findings. Tracy Buchman, associate professor of occupational and environmental safety and health, and Russ Kashian, professor of economics, led the effort for UW-Whitewater. Fox 6 »

UW-Whitewater was prominently featured in the Universities of Wisconsin’s recap of the first day of the Board of Regents meetings. Biology bird cam delivers entertainment, learning opportunities

Last May, UW-Whitewater’s Department of Biology placed a bird feeder in Kettle Moraine State Forest and launched a “nature cam” live stream on YouTube to watch birds (and other animals) in the area. Susan Devries, associate professor of biology, led the effort. Bird Cam »

UW-Whitewater partners on grant with Milwaukee schools

UW-Whitewater’s College of Education and Professional Studies and Office of PreCollege Programs are supporting the Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) on a $23 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education. They plan to serve precollege students from MPS through summer academic camps, campus visits, and opportunities for those who enroll at UW-Whitewater upon high school graduation. GEAR UP grant »
