It’s on Us week

Help us create a culture of preventing sexual violence on our campus by being a part of It’s on Us week. This week-long event, held in the University Center concourse, provides awareness and prevention education. As part of the programming, UHCS Interpersonal Violence Prevention will host a special presentation by Michael Domitrz at 5 p.m. in Summers Auditorium on Thursday, April 25. Domitrz, an alum who was the 2023 May commencement speaker,  will speak about consent, respect in relationships, and bystander intervention.

John Buckley graduated with a BBA in accounting from UW-Whitewater but followed another passion — entrepreneurship — in his work on the West Coast. Buckley remains true to his Wisconsin roots and currently serves on UW-Whitewater’s Foundation Board.

Rachel Nelson selected Division III Bowler of the Year 

Rachel Nelson, a social work major from Poplar Grove, Illinois, was named NCAA Division III Bowler of the Year by the National Tenpin Coaches Association for the 2023-24 season. Nelson is the fifth Warhawk to earn the national award.

Kudos to Noah Bulgrin, a marketing major from Grafton, and Kathryn Brinkman, a marketing major from Plymouth, who presented work done on a team research project at the International Society of Marketing Conference on April 11 in Chicago. The team for the project, “College Student Omnichannel Shopping Preferences for Grocery Retailing,” also included fellow student team member Elizabeth Schulz, a marketing major from New Berlin, and faculty members Maxwell K. Hsu, professor of marketing, and Rob Boostrom, associate professor of marketing.

Kudos to Nicholas Gulig, associate professor of literature, writing, and film, whose new book of poetry, “The Other Altar,” has been selected as the recipient of the 2024 Colorado Prize for Poetry and will be published by The Center for Literary Publishing at Colorado State University in November. Gulig is the State Poet Laureate in Wisconsin. Read more »

The Warhawk men’s wheelchair basketball team was featured in a Wisconsin Public Radio segment highlighting the team’s 2024 national championship and the team members who are participating in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

David Reinhart, senior lecturer of philosophy and religious studies, and Amy Trees, an English major from Edgerton, were quoted in a Janesville Gazette article recapping a Holocaust presentation on campus given by Steven Russek, whose mother, Dora Russek, a Jewish woman from Eastern Europe, survived the Holocaust.

Women’s tennis to host WIAC AQ Tournament

The UW-Whitewater women’s tennis team will host the four-team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Team Tournament this Saturday, April 27, starting at noon at the Warhawk Outdoor Tennis Complex. The winner of the tournament will earn the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. The Warhawks seek their 16th straight appearance in the national tournament.

Sole Survivor on April 24

To mark Sexual Assault Awareness Month, University Health and Counseling Services is collecting old shoes through April 22 for a Sole Survivor display outside of the Ambrose Health Center on April 24. The display is intended to show that sexual assault occurs across the board — among all communities on campus and around the world. If you have any old or unused shoes, consider donating them to UHCS for this display. They will be donated to the Community Space, a local source of free clothing, furniture, houseware items and more to the community, after the exhibit is over.

International Children’s Day Celebration 

Celebrate the wonderful ways in which all children add to the beauty of our community at the third annual International Children’s Day Celebration from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at Lincoln Elementary in Whitewater. This free, family-friendly event includes live music, games, crafts, face painting and other activities. Food will be available for purchase.

Community Events
