I Am HOPE Spotlight: Bryan Sands (BA '01)
Driven to Minister

Over the past 9 years, Bryan Sands (BA '01), church planter and former HIU Campus Pastor, supplemented his ministry as a part-time Uber driver. Bryan's "sanctuary on wheels" side hustle unexpectedly opened the door for countless conversations about faith, theology, and spirituality, which he shares in an article featured on the Christianity Today website.

Sands’ "chauffeur ministry" began in 2017, when he wanted some extra cash while his wife, Caz, took a breather from full-time ministry to be home with their daughters. At the time, Sands was a campus pastor for Hope International University in Fullerton, California. Every Friday night for a year, he left work and put the Uber decal on his windshield, roaming Orange County for eight-hour shifts.

“I think pastors everywhere should be doing some type of rideshare [work],” Bryan says. “We can get so insulated in our sphere.”

MFT Program Celebrates 40 Years

The Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Hope International University recently celebrated its 40th Anniversary with a special evening bringing together alumni, current students, faculty, and friends of the program for connection, networking, and celebration.
The evening centered around the theme, Making Waves: Making an Impact One Ripple at a Time, honoring the lasting influence of graduates, faculty, students, and community partners on individuals, couples, families, and communities over the past four decades.
For 40 years, students have walked through the doors of Hope with a desire to make a difference. Faculty have taught, mentored, challenged, and encouraged generations of future therapists. And graduates have carried the knowledge, skills, and values they gained here far beyond the university—creating a ripple effect that continues to touch countless lives.
