Dear KPR Listeners,
Last night, the White House issued an executive order to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), directing it to halt funding to NPR and PBS. Because federal funds are distributed directly to local public media stations, the order could result in a significant loss for more than 1,300 public media organizations nationwide, including KPR. Critical funding for Kansas Public Radio is just steps away from being eliminated and could result in a loss of approximately $244,000 per year.
The executive order is the latest in a series of actions taken by the White House to halt federal funding for public media's news, educational and cultural programming. If the order is implemented, it will have a negative impact on KPR and the network of organizations that work together to ensure free access to everything public media provides.
