I am writing to share some exciting news regarding career services for postdoctoral fellows. To better serve our community, we are transitioning career support out of the Career Center and into my portfolio, which includes graduate education and postdoctoral training.
This strategic move is part of our commitment to enhancing holistic support for our postdocs, ensuring that you receive tailored resources and guidance alongside existing initiatives like the Graduate and Postdoctoral Academic Success (GPAS) Program and support provided by the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA). This move allows for a more integrative model of support. As we begin another academic year, I want to take a moment to remind you of Vanderbilt’s membership with Beyond the Professoriate. This unique e-learning platform offers invaluable resources, including video lessons on career exploration, writing application materials, and guidance on interviewing and negotiating your next career steps. They also host webinars on relevant topics like Strategies for Navigating a Difficult Job Market and How to Use Your Degree to Change Careers.
For personalized support, one-on-one consultations will begin in mid-September. In the meantime, if you have specific career-related questions or require assistance, please email gshelpdesk@vanderbilt.edu. School of Medicine postdocs will continue to utilize career support through the BRET Career Development ASPIRE Program. We are here to support you every step of the way.
Best, C. André Christie-Mizell Vice Provost for Graduate Education Dean of the Graduate School Director, Office of Postdoctoral Affairs Centennial Professor of Sociology
