In Los Angeles County, mpox cases have doubled with 52 cases reported in the last four weeks, compared to 24 during the previous four-week period. Approximately 70% of new cases in the past six months were individuals who were not vaccinated. JYNNEOS vaccine remains the most effective tool to prevent mpox among populations at elevated risk. See news release.
To date, all cases in LA County have been clade II mpox, however, providers should remain vigilant for clade I cases. If mpox is suspected in any person with travel to Africa within the past 21 days, please notify Public Health immediately to facilitate mpox clade-specific testing.
