Is Your Group Accessible?

Does your group meet in a community center, hospital, or church that is fully accessible to persons with disabilities? If you meet on the second floor, is there an elevator available? The family disease of alcoholism doesn’t exempt people with disabilities, and they need access to recovery too.
If your meeting location is accessible, please make sure your group’s listing on al‑anon.org indicates this so that people with disabilities can access Al‑Anon recovery.

Will the Hand of Al‑Anon Be There?

“Meeting designations may be confusing to newcomers and long‑time members alike. Some are pretty clear, like “Families and Friends Only” or “Families, Friends, and Observers Welcome.” But what about all the others...”

Let’s Talk about...Meeting Type

Anyone impacted by someone else’s drinking can seek support at Al‑Anon meetings. “Families and Friends Only” meetings are expressly for members and prospective members, while “Families, Friends, and Observers Welcome” meetings are open to all, including students and professionals.

Some groups may specify participant type (i.e., Adult Children, Beginners, LGBTQIA+, Men, Parents, Women, Young Adults, or People of Color), but all Al‑Anon meetings welcome anyone looking for help. Alateen groups, however, are exclusively for young people affected by someone’s drinking and Area‑certified Al‑Anon Members Involved in Alateen Service (AMIAS).
