Dear CC Community Members and Friends, |
As we head into our annual summer retreat next week, the Board and I want to thank you for your thoughtful input on the qualities needed in Colorado College’s 15th president. Your insights have been invaluable and will be instrumental in ensuring we make the best decision for CC’s future together.
To offer clarity on next steps, I want to share an overview of the options under consideration and the process to date — while emphasizing that no decisions have been made.
This spring, we launched a two-pronged process with executive search firm Russell Reynolds:
-
Many of you contributed to the development of an executive profile through campus and community listening sessions, a college-wide survey (with responses from more than 1,500 individuals), and a faculty-specific survey from the Faculty Executive Committee.
-
In parallel, Russell Reynolds conducted an evaluation of Interim President Manya Whitaker’s potential candidacy. This included a real-time assessment of her at a regional alumni and admitted student event, a psychometric leadership assessment, skip-level dialogues with most cabinet members, and 1:1 conversations with all charter trustees and more than half of the incoming trustees.
During a closed session, the Board will review the compiled results of these efforts from Russell Reynolds. We will then consider two options:
- Conducting a national search and inviting Dr. Whitaker to apply
-
Appointing Dr. Whitaker as the 15th president
We will carefully weigh each option — guided by the community’s feedback and focused on the best interest of the College. As with all decisions of this magnitude, an outcome will not be determined immediately. The Board will take the following two weeks to reflect on the information received and accompanying dialogue before voting the week of June 30. The outcome will be shared with the community the week of July 7 to ensure clarity on next steps.
Thank you again for your engagement in this important process. Your contributions are helping shape the future of Colorado College. Our shared goal is to make the best possible decision to position the College as it embarks on its next 150 years — and your contributions have been essential to that effort. We look forward to sharing the result of this comprehensive process with you soon.
Sincerely,
CC Board of Trustees Chair
