Inspiring Change: The Impact of Guest Speakers at OKC Rotary Club 29
by Freda Deskin, Ph.D.
(Joined Norman Noon Rotary in 1989 and Club 29 in 2009)
The Oklahoma City Rotary Club 29 has long been a beacon of service, leadership, and community engagement. One of the key elements that enriches the club’s experience is the diverse lineup of guest speakers who share their insights, expertise, and stories with members. These speakers have not only broadened the horizons of Rotarians but have also sparked meaningful discussions and inspired action within the community.
Over the past year, the club has welcomed a variety of speakers from different backgrounds, including business leaders, community activists, educators, and health professionals. Each guest brings a unique perspective that resonates with the club's mission of "Service Above Self." For instance, David Holt, the Mayor of Oklahoma City, spoke about his vision for the city and the importance of community involvement in local governance. His insights motivated members to consider ways they can engage in civic activities and support initiatives that enhance the quality of life in Oklahoma City.READ MORE

September 2025 - Rotary Magazine for Rotarian Subscribers
He may only have had a couple weeks' notice, but Francesco Arezzo says he feels ready — and lucky — to serve as Rotary's 2025-26 president after an unexpected leadership transition. For this issue of Rotary magazine, we caught up with Arezzo at the Rotary International Convention in Calgary to get to know the longtime Rotarian, orthodontist, and olive oil producer from Sicily.
Click here to read your digital copy of the September 2025 issue.
Another special person — well, place — we're getting to know this issue: Taipei. Taiwan's capital, known for night markets and ancient temples among skyscrapers, is the host city for the 2026 Rotary Convention. Find out why the global gathering should top your bucket list. Then register by 15 December for a discounted rate.
In another of this month's features, we take you to Bethlehem to meet the person who brought women's soccer to Palestine. How Honey Thaljieh, a Rotarian working at FIFA headquarters, is advancing equity in sports on a global pitch.
Finally, for Rotary's Basic Education and Literacy Month we've got a Top 10 list of children's books courtesy of a reading program started by a Rotarian that grew into a state holiday in Wyoming.
Prefer to listen? Check out the Rotary Voices podcast for audio versions of the magazine's best storytelling, along with full episodes featuring bonus interviews
