Plus $115M in new center awards
This month’s edition of the Pratt Blueprint video series focuses on engineering solutions in health care. Through our work, engineering can move our health care systems away from models optimized to react to illness and toward ones better suited to preventing disease, detecting health issues earlier and personalizing treatments that dramatically improve individual health outcomes. Join me in taking a closer look at how our engineers rely on deep connections with our medical school and its clinicians to identify where the real problems live and explore how our technical expertise can create innovative solutions … ones that work not just once, but every time.

Professor Miroslav Pajic has assembled an incredible team of leading researchers across Duke ECE and several partner institutions to launch a new $24M Army Research Center called ICE-CEM. Their mandate is to develop the fundamental tools and automated procedures needed to detect, thwart and control enemy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), with minimal system interaction and limited knowledge of the target UAVs. Discover how our growing full-stack capabilities across a wide range of technologies is the key driver of this critical research.

Strategic Vision / Healthy Society

Duke University’s Department of Biomedical Engineering received a $500,000 investment to strengthen its teaching laboratories, providing new support for the hands-on, practical educational experiences that are a hallmark of a Duke BME education. The funding, made possible through generous donor support and investment from the dean’s office, will enable the department to invest in the spaces, equipment and educational resources that are helping prepare Duke BME students for the next stage of their careers in an ever-evolving field.
