Strategies to Sell Weekend Camp
As summer transitions to fall and you build connections with kids, it's prime time to prepare for school season weekend camping! Wondering how to promote your weekend camp effectively? Discover some ideas below.
-
First, organize the logistics! Important nuts and bolts to consider include confirming which leaders are available and determining your camp price. Decide if you need to recruit additional leaders, and if you want to absorb your leader costs in the camp price.
- Next, package your camp promotion in easy-to-share content:
Start by utilizing your camp registration page in YL Connect Camp. If you're camping at a Young Life camp this school season:
- Like summer, your campaign will be created for you! You simply need to edit and publish your registration page in Webconnex. Need help from camping support? Fill out the concierge form.
If you’re camping at a non-Young Life property, don’t forget to follow these tips when creating your school-season page:
- Start in YL Connect, not in Webconnex.
- Click the “Create New Camp Trip or Event” link.
-
Once you create a new trip/campaign in YL Connect, a new registration page will automatically be created for you in Webconnex. Don't copy old registration pages! Using the newly-created registration page will ensure your trip is created correctly and will properly sync from Webconnex to YL Connect Camp while showing up in your CMI numbers.
Finally, be sure to close out any locally-created, school season camp trips. This helps keep accurate statistics for your area. Here’s how.
Finally, start sharing the invite and get the word out ASAP! Think both creatively and strategically to reach the most kids. And, remember most kids take five-to-seven points of contact before they register. Here are some ideas:
-
Use the graphics you created to include weekend camp information in all emails, including parent, committee, and area update emails.
- Share your graphics to social media.
- Share first names of kids who have signed up for camp on Instagram stories. Ask students to help by sharing content to their own stories.
- Share throwbacks to pictures and videos from your last summer camp or fall/winter weekend trip and tag kids.
-
Make an announcement at every event and pass out flyers. This includes kid, adult, and fundraising events.
- Give Campaigner groups a vision to fill a cabin with friends who've never been to Young Life camp, and encourage them to start inviting.
- Make a list to ensure every kid who regularly attends club/Campaigners gets a personal invite. You can use YL Connect mobile to track who has invited kids.
- Confirm Sign-ups. When sign-ups come in, have leaders text kids to say they’re excited for them to be a part of weekend camp!
-
Most importantly, pray, pray, pray! Ask leaders to list kids to pray for and personally invite. Continually communicate your current registrations with your leaders. Use a prayer card graphic to invite committee and donors to pray for your camp trip as you invite students this fall.
School-season camping is a great opportunity for kids to meet Jesus and get to know Him better. We hope these ideas help you fill your weekend camp trips!
