The Greatest Product of Rotaryby Allyson Barnes
When Paul Harris founded Rotary in 1905, his vision was remarkably simple. He believed that if professionals from different backgrounds came together with a shared desire to serve, they could accomplish far more than any one person could alone.
Today, I think that vision is still alive every time we gather for a meeting.
One of my favorite Rotary traditions is something we often overlook: our name badges. They don't display our titles, the size of our companies, or our greatest accomplishments. Instead, they simply list our professions. Not because Rotary was intended to be a networking organization, but because they give us a glimpse into the talents, experiences, and perspectives each of us brings to the table. In many ways, our badges don't just tell us what we do. They tell us how we might serve one another.
When we look around the room, we don't just see attorneys, physicians, educators, engineers, nonprofit leaders, business owners, and community volunteers. We see people with different perspectives who, together, can solve problems that none of us could solve alone.
I've also always appreciated what isn't on our badges.
Our age. READ MORE

Rotary Magazine - For Rotarian Subscribers
You probably know that Rotary and its partners have reduced cases of polio by 99.9 percent. But that's not the whole story. All along the way, Rotary members have helped those same communities access clean water, other vaccines and healthcare, and a host of basic services. Learn about the many pluses of the PolioPlus program in our report from Pakistan. You probably know that Rotary and its partners have reduced cases of polio by 99.9 percent.
