The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), in collaboration with the City of San Francisco, has reached an important milestone in the San Francisco Waterfront Flood Study (Flood Study) - the release of the Draft Plan. 

Reflecting more than six years of community engagement and public input, the Draft Plan proposes actions to defend the shoreline against rising sea levels and presents an environmental analysis of those actions. 

The release of the Draft Plan was celebrated with a press conference hosted by the Port of San Francisco on Friday, January 26. 

Port Executive Director Elaine Forbes introduced Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, Mayor London Breed, Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis, State Senator Scott Wiener, Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin, and City Administrator Carmen Chu. All spoke to the importance of the Flood Study to the City and Bay Area and the importance of public comment to the Draft Plan. 

USACE and the City of San Francisco are seeking public comment on the Draft Plan and Environmental Review through March 29, 2024.

In addition to February's community workshops, there are several other upcoming community events - including workshops in Spanish and Chinese, waterfront walking tours, and online webinars - to learn more about the the Draft Plan and share your feedback. 

Events run through early March as USACE and the City of San Francisco seek public comment on the Draft Plan through Friday, March 29, 2024.

Waterfront Resilience Program staff joined team members of the Exploratorium for another series of Royal Tides waterfront walking tours and Teacher Training events held January 10-12. 

Royal Tides (also called King Tides) are expected on February 9. Learn more with the California Coastal Commission website.
