Dr. Andrew S. Weyrich became president of OMRF in 2022. An internationally recognized leader in blood clotting whose discoveries have facilitated key advances in the field of hematology, Dr. Weyrich came to the foundation from the University of Utah, where he was vice president for research, professor of internal medicine and held the H.A. & Edna Benning Presidential Endowed Chair.

Originally an exercise physiologist, Dr. Weyrich joined the University of Utah as a postdoctoral fellow and over the next 28 years built his scientific reputation on the investigation of how blood cells impact human thrombotic and inflammatory diseases. He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed articles and has been funded by the National Institutes of Health for over 25 years.

Genealogy Makes History

 by Dick Hefton
Being a bit of Personal Privilege, this column falls on my Birthday Week, February 6! Aquarius types by definition “don’t do anything they don’t want to do.” Writing “Reflections” columns has been a joy these near ten years which I’ve valued greatly along with the focus and fellowship founded in Club 29, over my long Rotary trek. 2022 will close out 60 years serving in 3 great clubs; McAlester, Midwest City, OKC Club #29!

My leading interest centers around history, current events, world affairs and interesting people who make things happen in apparently small or unheralded ways. Writing the occasional Rotary Reflection has allowed me a slow descent from 30-some years high - flying duties paired with 50 years of newspaper work, punctuated with 25 – years of two editorials and four personal columns weekly.

2022-2023 Rotary International Theme Announced

 RI President-elect Jennifer Jones

Jennifer Jones, a member of the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland, Ontario, Canada, revealed the 2022-23 presidential theme, Imagine Rotary, as she urged people to dream big and harness their connections and the power of Rotary to turn those dreams into reality.

“Imagine, a world that deserves our best,” Jones told incoming district governors on 20 January, “where we get up each day knowing that we can make a difference.”

Jones, who will make history on 1 July by becoming Rotary’s first female president,
gave a live online address to precede Rotary’s annual training event for district governors from around the world, the International Assembly.
