DIRECTOR'S NOTE
June is shaping up to be a fantastic month here at the Gleason - we have a family concert series on the lawn, an Old Home Day book swap with the Friends of the Gleason, and the start of our "Find Your Voice" summer reading program. The Gleason Endowment Fund would also like to invite everyone to a special Capital Campaign Kick-Off event on the Library Lawn on Wednesday, June 14th, from 4 to 6 p.m., with live music, crafts, food for purchase from the Chicken on the Run Food Truck, and the unveiling of our donation tracker thermometer! We hope to see you all soon at these wonderful events.
LIBRARY ROOF CONSTRUCTION
Construction work to replace the Gleason Library roof is scheduled to begin the week of June 5th. The Gleason plans to remain fully open to the public during construction. Patrons should be aware that noise levels inside the Library may be elevated and that available parking will be reduced. Traffic through the parking lot may occasionally be redirected; we suggest holding dropbox returns until weekends or after 4pm weekdays, if your schedule allows. As always, there are no late fees for overdue materials.

Please call 978-369-4898 or email mpatten@gleasonlibrary.org with any questions.

LIBRARY CLOSINGS FOR JUNE
The Gleason Public Library will be closed on Monday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth.

COMMUNITY BOOK CLUB
Monday, June 5 | 10:30 a.m.
June: Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes
July: Dubliners by James Joyce
The Carlisle Community Book Club welcomes new members anytime. Members take turns suggesting a book, and because the members have different reading habits and suggest a wide range of books, everyone broadens their horizons. We also talk about other books we’ve read or are interested in reading, and usually someone else at the meeting has read it or has something to say about it. If you like to read and are looking for some literary companionship, give the Community Book Club a try.

The Community Book Club meets once a month, usually on the first Monday, at 10:30 a.m. via Zoom. Please register to receive the Zoom login information. No commitment required. You don’t even have to have read the book to go to the meetings, but you may come out of the discussion wanting to read it. Sponsored jointly by the CoA and the Gleason Public Library.
READING POETRY ANEW
Tuesday, June 6 | 10 a.m.
Reading Poetry Anew will meet via Zoom. Please note the change in the starting time—the class will now begin at 10 a.m instead of 10:30 a.m. Please register to receive the Zoom invitation and poem packet by email. All are welcome!

Dip or dive into the pleasures of poetry. This informal course, led by Mary Zoll, will include poetry readings and reactions, discussions of the patterns and techniques used in the poems, and perhaps some intellectual understanding of the poems. This class meets one Tuesday a month. Mary Zoll has published a few poems and read a multitude of poems.
NEW MUSEUM PASS: DAVIS FARMLAND
Thanks to a generous donation from the Friends of Gleason Public Library, Library cardholders can now check out a discount pass for Davis Farmland! Davis Farmland is a seven-generation, working family farm, continuously in operation since 1846 in Sterling, MA. Starting in 1996, Davis Farmland has provided opportunities for discovery and play to families with children 12 years old and younger. It has a Waterspray Park; Imagine-Acres; Adventureland; interactions with farm animals; and a “Mega Maze” in the fall. It is also home to the largest sanctuary of endangered farm animals in North America. Special events include hands-on reptile shows.

Visit gleasonlibrary.org/museum-passes to make a reservation for this and the Library’s other great museum passes.
Please consider donating to the Friends of the Gleason Public Library to help us bring more great programs and services to the Carlisle community.
