Program -- Mentor/Mentee Program

ASDA District 3 Pre-Dental Committee! Our committee is starting a Mentor/Mentee Program, where pre-dental students can be actively mentored by a dental student from one of the District 3 Dental Schools (Howard, UPenn, Temple, Maryland, and Pittsburgh).

To have everyone paired by the new year, we are looking to close sign-ups by Thursday, December 29th 11:59pm. Once we have received the students’ information and have drafted all the pairings, we will notify students via email by January 3rd for the virtual (via zoom) mentor/mentee reveal to be held Mid-January.

More information can be found on the google form:

Please note, we have a limited number of mentors, so we will be closing the google form once we have met the equivalent number of mentees!

Program -- Michigan Humane Summer Jobs Program

Michigan Humane offers a paid Summer Job Program for current students who are looking to gain essential hands-on veterinary experience, while making a difference in the lives of animals and people within our communities. Applicants should be currently enrolled in a veterinary, pre-veterinary, or veterinary nursing/technical program. The program is approximately three months long, lasting from June through August. Some flexibility may be offered to accommodate semester start and end times. We have opportunities at our facilities in Rochester Hills, Westland and Detroit, MI.

Our program affords students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience building essential technical skills that align with their interests, which may include the following -

Safe animal handling
Physical Exams
Blood Draws
Surgical Prep
Anesthesia Monitoring
Laboratory Skills
Community Outreach
Farm Animal Care

Participants will also gain exposure to a variety of clinical and shelter medicine topics, such as infectious disease control, neonatal care, surgery and animal behavior. Students will also receive individual mentorship with regular guidance to develop goals and monitor professional development throughout the summer. If this sounds like a great opportunity to you, we'd encourage you to apply and spend your summer with us!

Event -- NSU KPCOM - Direct Entry into Medical School Pathway Information

Nova Southeastern University’s Graduate Certificate in Health Professions Preparation (C.H.P.P.) Program. This program is our D.O. school’s exclusive Post-Bac program and it is located in Tampa, Florida.

C.H.P.P. is offered on-campus, using a flipped classroom model with a multitude of asynchronous learning opportunities. Students earn their graduate certificate in one year and at the program’s conclusion in May have the opportunity to either directly matriculate in the next fall’s D.O. class with a 3.6 GPA in their coursework or guarantee themselves an interview with a final GPA between a 3.4-3.59 for a spot in that same year’s D.O. class (Finish CHPP in May, start medical school in July of the same year).

Many students who may not be ready for medical school for various reasons are looking for opportunities to develop the necessary skills to become competent and compassionate future physicians and gain acceptance into medical school. During the last three years of this program, 90% or more of our graduates have secured a seat in NSU’S D.O. program.  The program currently requires the same pre-req classes that our medical school requires, and student can be interviewed and accepted with a 497 MCAT or higher. We anticipate accepting around 100 students for next year’s class.

Also, we will be hosting Virtual Open Houses between now and May 2023 and hope that you will encourage potential applicants to attend. Students can click this link to check the dates and times we will be offering them as they will be updated monthly: https://osteopathic.nova.edu/degrees/certificate/health-professions-preparation.html
