Critical Pedagogy Tea Series for Graduate Students

Increasingy, the field of Science, Technology, and Society (STS) has become interested in topics surrounding pedagogy, the art and craft of teaching. More recently, there have been calls for increased engagement between STS practitioners and critical pedagogy including the opening of a panel on multimodal pedagogy at 4S Amsterdam and calls for chapters from Science, Technology, and Human Values. In this mini-series, we will work collaboratively to learn together about critical pedagogy, as a practice, and explore various different approaches, classroom re/configurations, and activities.

Join us for this Earth Day event featuring guest speaker Dr. Daniel Deudney, Professor of Political Science at Johns Hopkins University. His book Bounding Power: Republican Security Theory from the Polis to the Global Village (Princeton, 2007) was co-winner of the Book of the Decade Prize of the International Studies Association. His most recent book is Dark Skies: Space Expansionism, Planetary Geopolitics and the Ends of Humanity (Oxford, 2020). This free event is sponsored by the Program in Science, Technology, and Society, the Center for International Security and Cooperation, and the Stanford Existential Risks Initiative.

Policy & Research Internship - Summer 2024

The Learning Policy Institute is looking for recent graduates or graduate students interested in the intersection of research, public policy, and education. The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of or experience working on education research, national reform efforts, policy and advocacy, federal/state policies and processes, or within the education field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity and experience with qualitative and quantitative research and analysis.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Must be able to devote at least 30 hours per week for a term of at least 10 weeks.
The default term is approximately three months with the possibility of extending to up to 12 months.

CTL Tutor and LCP

The Center for Teaching and Learning is now hiring Subject Tutors and Language Conversation Partners (LCPs) for the 24-25 academic year.
Undergraduate, co-term, and graduate students are welcome to apply the following languages: Arabic, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. The deadline for all LCP applications is Sunday, April 21.

Undergraduate, co-term, and graduate students are welcome to apply for the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, CME, CS, Economics, Engineering, Human Biology, Math, MS&E, Physics, and Statistics. The deadline for all tutor applications is Sunday, May 5.
