Emory University Chaplaincy Student Worker Spotlight
Caron Lee (she/her) is from Peachtree Corners Georgia, and is an Emory junior planning to graduate Spring 2027. They are working towards a Chemistry major with a nutrition science minor. While at Emory, they have been involved in being an AHANA acapella, Partners In Health Engage, and a lab prep job for CHEM 204L.
What Caron likes best about working at OSRL is “...the entire staff and chaplaincy team! And I love how this office is so welcoming to everyone.”
Their current super power is making people feel comfortable, but the gift they’d like to have is the power to prevent/heal diseases. When not working or studying, you might find them singing or eating chocolate molten lava cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

TODAY: Arts of Attention: Listening to Carnatic Music
Friday, September 26, doors open at 6:30 pm, Performing Arts Studio
What goes on in your mind when you listen to the south Indian artform of Carnatic Music, whether as a seasoned listener or a novice? How does your attention move among the various elements involved—the drone, melody, words, rhythm, private daydream? What experiences could a different style of attention unlock? This event begins with an interactive exploration of such questions. It concludes with a live performance of Carnatic Music, by Shiv Subramaniam (vocal), Sruti Sarathy (violin), and Akshay Anantapadmanabhan (mridangam, a two-headed south Indian drum).  The performance is in conjunction with Dr. Subramaniam's first-year seminar, Arts of Attention, and is organized by Asian Arts at Emory and Telugu Studies at Emory.

“The Art and Politics (and Afterlives) of Afro-Protestantism”
Thursday, October 16, 2025 5:00-6:00 pm, RARB 252, 1531 Dickey Drive
Drawing upon anecdote, everyday observations, and archival evidence, this lecture will explore the complex inner workings, the historic power and persistence, of Christianity in the making of individual Black lives and social worlds. Tracking Black culture, politics and intellectual life from the final years of the eighteenth century through the first decades of the twenty-first century, the lecture maps how religion—namely Protestant Christianity— has animated and been encoded in Black life in North America.  As an interdisciplinary scholar of religion and race in the Americas, Sorett employs primarily historical and literary approaches to the study of religion in Black communities and cultures in the United States, straddling the disciplines of history, literature, religion, art and music. Register here.
