Sixty Years, 10,000 Duke Students, One Last Lesson for English Professor
After nearly 60 years at Duke, English professor Victor Strandberg is retiring, having taught more than 10,000 students since joining the university in 1966. Known for his dedication to teaching and connecting personally with students, he built large, popular courses around major authors like Faulkner, Eliot, and Morrison. Strandberg credits his career to a commitment to helping students better understand literature and broaden their thinking.
The most satisfying part of my career over these 60 years has been throwing open new horizons of understanding great literature for students.
