This minor offers students a unique opportunity to develop a richer understanding of disability in the context of contemporary American society. The minor is anchored by a foundation of courses in English, Legal Studies, Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology, and has a number of electives from departments across the university. Courses for the minor overlap with your core curriculum and elective requirements. The courses allow students to see the links between disabilities and other diverse and marginalized groups (e.g., women, people of color) and to incorporate multiple perspectives (historical, political, economic, ethical).
18 credits required: PSYC.3630 Intro to Disability Studies, 3 core course, 2 electives
More details at Disability Studies Minor. Please email the co-coordinator Prof Ashleigh Hillier with any questions.

In public spaces, automatic bathroom features are more and more the norm. There are many benefits including more sanitary and water savings. Another benefit of hands-free units is the ease of use, most notably in young children, the elderly, and with physical disabilities. Older systems can be difficult to maneuver and a modern system eliminates the issues and allows all capabilities to use the facilities with ease.

The four rooms will be open for the upcoming Bruins and Celtics seasons. With the rooms now set up within the TD Garden, organizers have said their program offers the largest number of sensory rooms in a single venue in the world.
|
|
|
“When we think about diversity and inclusion, what we’re doing here is creating a community,” said Dustin Giannelli of Hearsdustin.com.
Speaking about the rooms, Kulturecity Executive Director Uma Srivastava said they “are geared for anybody who might have a sensory need.”

Just two months after I started my master’s in history program in 2021, an emergency room doctor in Columbia, S.C., reviewed my MRI scan and told me that I had ...
I didn’t know what my long-term prognosis would look like. I didn’t know if I would be able to finish the semester, much less my program. Most troubling of all, I feared that my career in the history profession might be dead in the water before I even reached the deeps.

The rapper is part of a new public service announcement with Seize the Awkward, a national campaign encouraging young people to talk to their friends about mental health.
“Reach out to a friend if you see them going through it. No matter who you are, being vulnerable is what makes us whole,” she continued.
Her involvement in the project is helpful in reducing the stigma around mental health, which can be a big barrier to getting help.

Dance lessons were introduced to help him achieve developmental goals, and James Hobley says he took to the art form right away.
Madeleine Milner: “I can’t speak for all autistic people, but at least for myself, choreography is such a vital form of communication and it’s such a universal language. When I choreograph, it’s to communicate—there’s such a purpose to it.”

Watching Sex Education? Did the Disability Storylines do the Community Justice or not Not Enough? You Decide.

Sex Education: Why Season 4's Spotlight on Disability Is so Important
Finally, as the series concluded, it felt like it came out swinging this time with various representations of disability, as well as increased focus on the impact of accessibility and casual ableism on the lives of disabled people. This wasn’t always the case with previous seasons of Sex Education, as well as many other shows that treat disability as an afterthought, but the series’ culminating season finally brought disability more into the forefront.
