The NJCU Pedagogy Day Committee is honored to welcome LaVise McCray as our keynote speaker. A retired Special Education Teacher and Jersey City native, Ms. McCray brings a remarkable story of resilience and advocacy. Following her diagnosis with End-Stage Renal Disease in 2015 and a lifesaving kidney transplant, she has become a dedicated advocate for organ and tissue donation. Currently pursuing a Psychology degree at NJCU, Ms. McCray  also mentors and volunteers with organizations like the National Kidney Foundation and NJ Sharing Network. Join us for her inspiring keynote speech on perseverance, education, and community impact!

Come celebrate National Poetry Month with Theta Pavis as she reads from her new poetry collection, "The Red Strobe." This fierce book unfolds in a landscape marked with loss. Its sparse, direct, and gorgeous language celebrates survival, daughters, mothers, sisters, and the whiplash of girlhood. "The Red Strobe" bears witness to the labor of caretaking and love. Books will be available for signing and refreshments will be served.

Theta Pavis is a poet, editor and educator. Her writing has appeared in "The Journal of New Jersey Poets," "The Red Wheelbarrow," "Mom Egg Review," "Spillwords Press," "Why to These Rocks: 50 Years of Poetry from the Community of Writers" (HeyDay Books) and many others. The Lee Hagan Africana Studies Center and BAAFSSO presents our monthly Chat & Chew Series with special guest speaker, Mussab Ali. He is a civic leader, advocate, and trailblazer who became the nation’s youngest Muslim elected official after winning a seat on the Jersey City school board in 2017, and later served as its president. He will help us reflect on the power of purpose, especially in the wake of Ramadan, purpose, faith, and forward movement. Light refreshments will be served.

NJCU Galleries are pleased to hold Metamorphosis: 2025 NJCU BFA Thesis Exhibition in both galleries, opening on April 5. With the largest graduating class of 33 students, this year’s BFA exhibition will be split into two cycles. Both cycles will start with a reception on Saturday, April 5 from 3 to 6 p.m. with an Artist Talk on the following Thursdays from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. with the exception of one Artist Talk taking place during the second opening reception on May 3.

Both exhibitions will consist of the wide-ranging subjects and styles in ceramics, graphic design, illustration, painting, and photography. All artists will display their bests, expanding into the space to showcase their metamorphosis from students to emerging professionals. Please come support young talents!

As we continue to dedicate ourselves to increasing mental health awareness, and suicide prevention efforts, this training is essential for all of our offices. It will take about 15-20 minutes and has very valuable information.

Ask. Listen. Refer. provides a certificate of completion, and also includes a pre and post-test. If you need proof of completion, please connect with me, as I will be able to track its participants. This interactive online suicide prevention program has been shown to increase the ability of students to recognize and respond to peers at risk for suicide.

This is an excellent, convenient program that is a great resource for our division and the campus.

The Pop R&B Ensemble is the creation of the NJCU Music Business program. It is dedicated to performing classic “pop” with a focus on rhythm & blues music from the pens of 20th-century tunesmiths whose work ruled the airwaves from the 1960s to the present day.

At NJCU, Commencement provides our students an opportunity to celebrate their academic achievements with family, friends, faculty, alumni, and the entire University community. The ceremony will recognize School of Business, College of Professional Studies, Deborah Cannon Partridge Wolfe College of Education, and the William J. Maxwell College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) and CAS/Education dual-degree recipients.

We will have ONE ceremony where undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students will come together to celebrate this incredible milestone.
