Hundreds attend Sac State's first campuswide Juneteenth celebration
More than 700 people gathered on the Main Quad on June 13 to join the University's first celebration of Juneteenth, which marks the emancipation of Black people from legal enslavement in America.
The event — which included music, dancing, games, speakers, and more — reflects Sac State’s commitment to becoming an antiracism campus where all feel a sense of belonging, said Mia Settles-Tidwell, vice president for Inclusive Excellence.
Sac State officials also participated in a daylong Juneteenth event at William Land Park on June 17, and the University next year will host a CSU-wide celebration including representatives from all 23 campuses.
