Welcome to the quick-read summer edition of UNT Weekly! Every Wednesday between now and Aug. 5, you’ll receive a shortened newsletter with important items and sometimes content that’s just for fun!

SUMMER SOAR PARTY

Do you have family and friends who want to be part of the Mean Green Family? Be sure to let them know about the Summer Soar Party happening from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 17, at Frisco Landing, where they can learn all they need to know about becoming a UNT student.

This family-friendly event offers food, music and activities for all ages. Prospective UNT students also can apply for admission for free at the event, and students who are already admitted can enter to win a $500 Green and White Tuition Award. Make sure they registe r before attending.

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE

The UNT Police Department is hosting a Back to School Supply Drive now through Friday, July 31. Drop off school supplies such as No. 2 pencils, markers and composition notebooks at collection boxes located around campus. All supplies collected will go to students in need at elementary schools in the community.

SQUARE-D EXHIBITION

S quare-d is an annual exhibition showcasing the artwork of local community members, including many from UNT. The opening reception is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 10, at the UNT CoLab. Some original art will be part of a silent auction, and all other pieces will be available for $25 each. The exhibition runs through the end of July, and proceeds benefit the UNT Food Pantry presented by Kroge r.

EMMY CONNECTION

The Apple TV series Widow’s Bay has earned multiple Emmy Award nominations today, and actress and UNT alumna K Callan (’64) played a big role in the horror-comedy’s success. She attended North Texas in the 1950s and ’60s, earning a bachelor’s degree with a major in drama, and since then has been in many movies and TV shows.
