Adolescents who perceive themselves as overweight are three times more likely to consider committing self-harm compared to those who do not, regardless of whether the person is objectively overweight, according to a new study led by UTA researchers Philip Baiden and Catherine LaBrenz.

NSF awards UTA engineer for flood research

Michelle Hummel, an associate professor of civil engineering, received a Faculty Early Career Development Program award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to advance her research and education initiatives. The award, known as CAREER, is the NSF’s highest honor for junior faculty.

AI cluster hire presentations today

As part of the RISE 100 initiative, interviews will be held today, Monday, Feb. 17, at 3 p.m. in Room 327 of the University Administration Building for the artificial intelligence (AI) cluster. This strategic hiring effort aims to enhance interdisciplinary research and teaching across multiple departments, with a particular focus on sustainability and AI. Candidates will participate in a group presentation that is open to all faculty. Faculty are encouraged to participate in person or via Microsoft Teams to engage with the candidates and provide valuable feedback. View today’s presentation materials and feedback form. The second group of interviews and presentations will be Thursday, Feb. 27, in the College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs building at 3 p.m. and via Microsoft Teams.

With the purpose of improving faculty recruitment, retention, and satisfaction, the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE) Faculty Job Satisfaction Survey evaluates faculty experiences across key areas like teaching, research, work-life balance, and campus climate. At UTA, this survey is driven by faculty and for faculty. If you are a full-time faculty member who has worked at UTA for at least one year, you received an email from coachefaculty@abtsurvey.com on Feb. 7 with your unique link to this confidential survey. Please complete the survey to help the Faculty Senate identify actionable recommendations for improving faculty working conditions at UTA. Black History Month

UTA will continue to commemorate Black History Month throughout February with a series of events, including live music, film screenings, an open mic night, and much more. Black History Month, which dates back to 1915, honors the contributions of Black Americans to U.S. culture and history.

Previous All Majors Job and Internship Fair

Recruit underclassmen, graduating seniors, graduate students, and alumni for full-time positions, part-time positions, co-ops, and internships at the All Majors Job and Internship Fair. More than 1,000 students and alumni are expected to attend the job fair, set for Wednesday, March 5, 12-4 p.m., in the Maverick Activities Center. Registration ends Wednesday, Feb. 19.
