In the seventh episode of Discovering the Maverick Factor, host Shaunda Musick sits down with James Kumm, executive director of Military and Veteran Services at UTA, and Sebastian Molina, Army veteran and social work student. Together, they explore the University’s commitment to veteran-friendly resources, the impact of the Maverick veteran community, and Sebastian’s personal journey toward building a career focused on serving his fellow veterans.

STEM-focused MBA 

In response to predicted growth in technology management jobs and an increased demand for skilled workers, UTA is unveiling a new, one-of-a-kind STEM-focused MBA program. The STEM-designated Master of Business Administration in technology management and innovation will launch in the spring of 2025.

New gecko species

Walter E. Schargel and a team of biologists have discovered a new tiny lizard species. This discovery, published in the Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society, highlights the unique characteristics of this gecko, including its small size (about 2.5 inches long), brown color, cone-shaped head, long snout, and particular skull anatomy.

Meet MyUTA: Your Maverick life, organized 

Launching Nov. 18, MyUTA is a one-stop destination for your UTA experience! Users can access frequently used tools, such as academic resources, UTA email, campus maps, and parking availability. MyUTA will be hosted at my.uta.edu, which will be the new way to find MyMav. There will be no changes to the MyMav login process.

UTA’s men's basketball team plays its final home game of the month against Texas College tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. Tickets start at $5, and students, plus an additional guest, will be admitted for free.

  • Confirmed spring courses with their advisor
  • Cleared any registration-preventing holds

FSA health care expense

Tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 15, is the last day to incur UT Flex Flexible Spending Account (FSA)-qualifying health care expenses for active employees with active accounts for the 2023-24 plan year. Saturday, Nov. 30, is the UT Flex Health Care and Dependent Day Care claim filing deadline for the 2023-24 plan year. Learn more about benefits.

The Honors Research Symposium is a culmination of months of hard work and dedication of honors students in conducting undergraduate research in various disciplines. Socks for service, Donate a pair of new socks today to help our homeless veterans!

Socks for Service

Veterans Upward Bound are collecting new socks for homeless veterans in its Socks For Service Drive though Tuesday, Dec. 10. Donations will be accepted at the Military and Veteran Services Center, the Follett Student Leadership Center, Room 706 of Carlisle Hall, the Financial Aid Office in the University Administration Building, and Veterans Lounge in Room 216 of the Library.

Policy updates

BF-PM-PO-01 University Property Policy (Acquisition and Receipt, Inventory Management, and Disposition)

This new policy was put in place as part of the property management/inventory policy/procedure reorganization plan. This policy addresses the legal requirements pertaining to the control and protection of state-owned assets. In addition, it discusses handling inventory, tagging University property, maintaining property records, and disposition of assets. It also lists department responsibilities throughout each stage of the property management process.

This entire procedure was updated to reflect amended department responsibilities and processes.

This entire procedure was updated to reflect amended department responsibilities and processes.

 

BF-PM-PR-07 United States Government-Owned Equipment Procedure (Responsibilities, Care, Maintenance, Utilization, Identification, Disposition, and Records)

This procedure's name was changed from "United States Government-Owned Equipment Procedure (Responsibilities, Care, Maintenance, Utilization, Identification, Dispostion, and Records)." The entire procedure was updated to reflect amended department responsibilities and processes.

 

CO-UF-PO-01 University Facilities Use Policy

This policy was updated with several minor changes. Language was updated in the Photographs or Filming section to allow for use of UTA property or buildings owned or controlled by UTA for filming for any commercial or academic purpose. Minor language was updated in the Public Safety section to provide clarity. Additions were made to the list of Special Use Facilities to include the Fort Worth Campus and Nedderman Hall, the Science and Engineering Innovation and Research Center, the Shimadzu Institute Nanotechnology Research Center, and the W.A. Baker Chemistry Research Building to be used as research lab and office space. Finally, language was updated to provide clarity on emotional support animals and service animals.

 

HR-E-PO-11 Student Employment Policy

Job code numbers were updated throughout this policy. Language in the Student Intern section was updated to include that the department must develop written expectations and responsibilities to provide to the student intern. The Pay and Benefits section was updated to reflect that students are eligible for workers' compensation benefits if injured on the job. Student employees are not eligible for leave without pay, in-state tuition based on their status as a student employee, or other employee benefits, such as sick leave, vacation leave, holiday pay, longevity pay, insurance, or retirement benefits. In addition, language was added stating international students on an F-1 visa are not eligible to work at UTA upon completion of their academic degree program.

 

HR-E-PR-21 Student Employment Procedure

Updates were made to this procedure to reflect current processes for departments, including posting jobs, updated job code information, closing jobs, completing criminal background checks, and onboarding. In addition, procedures involving students without social security numbers were added. Pay ranges and job codes were updated throughout. Finally, termination/resignation procedures were updated.
