UTA announces westward expansion

The UT System Board of Regents approved on Aug. 5 UTA’s plan to purchase land to establish a new campus, UTA West, that will bring all the benefits of a top-tier research university and the nation’s best public university system to west Fort Worth within the eastern edge of Parker County. UTA West will be a new campus advantageously positioned at the intersection of I-30 and I-20 at the western gateway of Fort Worth and will be dedicated to meeting the educational needs of one of the fastest-growing areas in the country.

A rising star in manufacturing engineering

Chen Kan, assistant professor in the Department of Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering, was one of 20 recipients of the 2024 Susan Smyth Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineers award.

UTA’s 2024 MavsMeet Convocation will be held Monday, Aug. 19, from 3-5 p.m. in College Park Center. This year's guest speaker will be Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas.

UTA student medals in Olympic skeet shooting

Congratulations to aerospace engineering major Austen Smith! The Keller, Texas, native won a silver medal in mixed team skeet shooting and a bronze medal in women's skeet shooting at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Mentor Connections Fair

Mentor Connections Fair

The Office of Transition Programs and Services will host the Mentor Connections Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Palo Duro Lounge of the University Center. To bring awareness to the many mentoring opportunities on our campus, organizers are calling on all UTA departments and organizations to participate. Sign up to host a table by tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 9. Questions can be directed to the Sarah Sexton, assistant director of transition programs.

Volunteer for Move-In Day

Volunteer for Move-In Day to help welcome students to their new on-campus homes. Move-In Day will be 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 for residence halls and Friday, Aug. 16 for apartments. Volunteers will receive a free volunteer T-shirt for moving items into new students' rooms in residence halls and assisting with the check-in process for apartments. Organizers ask that anyone who signs up to drive mule carts is trained and certified prior to Move-In Day. Sign up for shifts by Tuesday, Aug. 13, 5 p.m. For more information, email Quinton Lane, assistant director of Apartment and Residence Life.

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is rebranding its Help Desk into a Service Desk. Monday, Aug. 12-Friday, Aug. 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Service Desk will have a pop-up location for for faculty and staff will be in Trinity Hall. For more information on how this rebrand will enhance the support provided across campus, visit the OIT blog.

The Employee Emergency Fund (EEF) provides short-term assistance for employees experiencing significant temporary financial hardship. The fund helps eligible employees cover basic needs. You can donate to EEF through automatic payroll deduction or online through the EEF giving website.

Campus preparations for excessive heat

During times of high temperatures and expected higher demand on the University’s chill water cooling system, UTA Facilities Management will take several steps to manage chill water use and recommends these measures for the campus community to help lessen cooling demands in buildings.
