The Price of a Good Deal in the Digital Grocery Aisle
A team of researchers, including Duke's Noah Gibson, is examining how online grocery platforms collect and use consumer data--work that could shape future protections for privacy, equity, and fair pricing. By measuring how much people value their personal information when shopping online, the project highlights hidden trade‑offs that millions of Americans make every day, especially those using federal nutrition programs. Early findings reveal gaps in access, unclear nutrition labeling and potential risks, such as personalized pricing. The insights from this study aim to guide policies and industry practices that ensure online food systems are transparent, fair and supportive of healthier choices for all consumers.
