Teacher Workshops Offer
Endorsement Credit for Arts Integration
|
Our partners at the Utah Board of Education are offering a unique integration workshop opportunity that we're excited to share. "Visual Narratives: Integrating Visual and Graphics Arts Mediums into Your Curriculum" is designed to help teachers receive credit toward the new Arts Integration Endorsement. The course uses graphic design and comic book art to strengthen relationships between various teams at your school, and to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and learning. The series schedule is as follows:
Two in-person workshops: Mar. 2 and 3, 2026 (Salt Lake City)
Two virtual webinars: Feb. 4 and May 6, 2026
Optional 1.0 USBE credit
Application is for teams of two or more educators who represent more than one content area. Support is available for substitutes and travel.

Attention high school poets! The entry period is open for Poetry Ourselves, our statewide poetry competition. Utah 9th- through 12th-grade students may submit either one or two of their own original poems of any format. Submitted poems must be 25 lines or fewer. Works may be submitted in English or Spanish. Winners will receive a cash award and be invited to present their works on the evening of state finals for Poetry Out Loud, Mar. 4, 2026. The entry deadline is Jan. 30, so don't delay!

Teachers, you can still register to hold a local competition for your 9th- through 12- grade students to qualify for Poetry Out Loud. Your winner can go on to compete at the regional, state, or national level to represent Utah in Washington, D.C. Poetry Out Loud is a nationwide event that allows high schoolers to explore great works of poetry through memorization and recitation. Cash prizes are available for students and their schools. In recognition of America’s 250th anniversary in 2026, the 2025-26 Poetry Out Loud program will focus on poems that celebrate the rich tapestry of American history and culture. Register by the end of January to hold a school competition!

Free Folk Arts Workshops Available
|
Our Living Folk Arts Education workshop series is accepting applications. This free program allows folk artists from the UA&M Teaching Artists roster to offer hands-on workshops to schools and community groups around the state. Groups can select from a wide range of traditional arts workshops taught by Utah folk artists. You can hold a workshop at the Chase Home Museum in Salt Lake City or arrange to have the artist come to your location.

| Utah Book Awards Submissions Are Open
|
Our friends at Utah Humanities have opened submissions for the Utah Book Awards. Submissions are open until Jan. 31, 2026. Books published between Jan. 1, 2023 and Jan. 1, 2026 are eligible. Check out this year's new Romance category!

Regional Booking Conference Scholarship
|
Our Performing Arts Program provides scholarships for presenters or performing artists to attend regional booking conferences. These conferences provide opportunities for performing artists to market their art to presenters. Booking conferences are also exceptional places to receive professional development and network with others in the field. The scholarship supports up to $1,000 in registration costs only.

| Shakespeare in American Communities
|
Applications are open for the 2026-27 Shakespeare in American Communities, offering support to nonprofit theaters bringing Shakespeare-inspired performances and educational activities to their communities. Theaters can bring Shakespeare’s works to life with support from the Schools and Juvenile Justice Programs, or offer hands-on opportunities for early-career theater professionals with support from the Apprenticeships Program. A mandatory Intent to Apply is due Jan. 29, 2026.

TYA Tour Development Collective
|
The TYA Tour Development Collective (TYA TDC) is a nationwide initiative bringing together performing arts venues and arts professionals to champion the creation of new theatrical works for youth and family audiences. The TYA TDC supports U.S. artists and companies with funds to help develop new projects to tour nationally. The collective is looking for new members and applicants; here is a one-sheet with more information. The artist application is open until Feb. 2, 2026.

| Emergency Preparedness Webinars
|
The Performing Arts Readiness (PAR) project is offering free emergency preparedness webinars. Designed specifically for performing arts organizations, these sessions emphasize that effective preparation enables quicker, more coordinated responses to crises, supports timely reopening, and facilitates a smoother return to normal operations.

Levitt Foundation Offers Grants for Festivals
|
The Levitt Foundation has an open call for grants of up to $5,000 to U.S.-based nonprofits presenting free outdoor music festivals in 2026. Festivals must take place outdoors in a public space, be free to attend, and feature programming with music and performance by professional musicians who are compensated. Applications are due by Jan. 30, 2026.
