ABHI Visit: The Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI) visited UTHSC on June 15 with representatives from 20 UK companies interested in forming partnerships in Tennessee. ABHI represent the HealthTech industry to key stakeholders, such as governments, health care systems and regulators, with members, including both multinationals and small and medium sized enterprises, that supply products from syringes and wound dressings to surgical robots and digitally enhanced technologies. The campus visit included brief presentations on UTHSC capacity, the research ecosystem at UTHSC, and how UTHSC partners on research initiatives followed by presentations from ABHI on key health care initiatives, with a focus on potential areas of partnership.

Award-Winning Communications: The Office of Communications and Marketing won two gold and one bronze Tennessee College Public Relations Association (TCPRA) awards during the TCPRA conference at the end of May – the Everywhere You Look, UTHSC Tour won gold for media relations and a gold for special events less than seven days, and the College of Pharmacy viewbook won a bronze. Center for Student Success: The Center for Student Success will be opening soon in the Madison Plaza. This space was previously the One Stop Shop. The new space, with a grand opening date to be announced soon, includes an interdisciplinary team of professionals to assist students with pursuing academic, professional, or social/community goals while at UTHSC. Offices represented in this space include the offices of Student Life, Health Career Programs, SASSI (academic coaching, tutoring, disability services), Financial Aid, Admissions, and Registrar.

CIO Transition: Dan Harder has transitioned to a position on the UTK campus. Vikki Massey will be serving as interim CIO and is working with ITS senior leadership members Todd Barber (data integrations/analytics/governance), Ammar Ammar (cybersecurity and infrastructure), and Steve Butler (technology in new buildings and major renovations) to continue to move all major initiatives and projects forward as well as maintain ITS’s partnerships across campus.

Form I-9: During the pandemic employers meeting certain COVID-19 workplace-related requirements were allowed to virtually review employees’ identity and employment authorization documents for Form I-9. UTHSC performed these actions in 2020-22 on approximately 450 employees. However, with the federal Public Health Emergency for COVID-19 ending on May 11, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have announced they will be ending COVID-19 flexibilities for Form I-9 requirements as of July 31. HR has asked these employees to stop by their local HR offices and bring documents to be verified in person no later than July 31, 2023. If employees cannot meet this deadline, please contact HR and we will work with DHS and ICE to get an extension.
- Mandatory Reporter Title IX Training: The Office of Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity has collaborated with GME to offer Mandatory Reporter Title IX training to new and returning trainees (i.e., residents and fellows) through Blackboard that enables tracking.

National Civility Month: The Office of Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity is finalizing plans for its inaugural announcement of National Civility Month in August 2023, including a weekly lecture/presentation and other activities throughout the month. The “Got Civility?” campaign will launch after National Civility Month with the assistance of Communications and Marketing utilizing media boards. It is part of a more extensive campaign to promote civility and civil discourse throughout UTHSC to increase intellectual diversity and promote climate facilitating the free and respectful exchange of ideas.
- New Pharmacy Dean: The CoP has a new dean – Dr. Reginal Frye – who started at UTHSC on June 1.

Non-Exempt Employees Currently Paid Monthly: As a part of the IRIS/SAP transition to DASH/ORACLE project, employees who are non-exempt but paid monthly will need to be transitioned to the biweekly payroll process. HR is working to mitigate the difficulties around this change. Let HR know if you have questions about this change.

OR Nurse Scholars Program: The College of Nursing and Baptist Memorial Health Care Corp. have established an Operating Room (OR) Scholars program to educate nursing students as perioperative nurses through the college's bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) program.

Record Contributions in FY2022-23: Donors contributed more than $29 million to the university and colleges in comparison to $15.4 million in FY2021-22 and $14.8 million in FY2020-21.

Strategic Planning: The 2023-28 UTHSC Strategic Plan was approved by the UTHSC Advisory Board in May, and by the UT Board of Trustees on Friday, June 30. Visit the strategic plan website to see the new mission, vision, values, and the strategic plan.

Strengthening Nursing Partnerships: The College of Nursing recently established another partnership enrollment program (PEP) to expand the pipeline of students coming into the traditional BSN program. The agreement guarantees full admission to the traditional BSN concentration any Dyersburg State Community College student who completes the required general education and prerequisite courses. In addition, college leadership visited Dillard University in New Orleans during the AANP national conference and met with Dillard leadership to discuss the new PEP the colleges have established and explore other possible areas of partnership. The PEP with Dillard is for the DNP and PhD programs at UTHSC.

Student Services Review: The Office of Student Success has partnered with the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), the nation’s most recognized association of student affairs professionals, to conduct a review of student services offered by the Office of Student Success. This review will include compliance/regulatory processes, resources, evidence-based practices, outcomes assessment, and other areas that will help us identify strengths and areas for potential development. This process will complete in the early fall.

- VCR Search: The Vice Chancellor for Research search is underway, with applications due June 30. The search committee, chaired by Dr. Sam Dagogo-Jack and Dr. Deb Crawford, will meet in July to consider applications and schedule initial interviews.

Welcome New Students: The incoming D1 class began July 5. With 120 students, this is the largest class in the College of Dentistry in over 30 years.
