UTA renews partnership agreement with Lockheed Martin
|
The University of Texas at Arlington and Lockheed Martin have renewed a partnership agreement that will generate valuable hands-on learning experience to further students’ academic and career goals. The UTA College Work Experience Program allows eligible students to gain employment skills by holding paid positions at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control in Grand Prairie.

Matthew Robison, assistant professor of psychology, and colleagues at the University of Oregon published a study on maintaining focus. He determined that one method for reducing lapses in attention is setting specific goals.

| Disinformation conference
|
A novel two-day conference at UTA explored why people share disinformation. Speakers at the conference included faculty from UTA as well as researchers from Columbia University, Harvard University, Aarhus University in Denmark, and the Online Hate Prevention Institute based in Australia.

You help students in their academic success and career readiness, and now it is your turn to continue being a lifelong learner and role model for students. To learn about earning a master's or doctoral degree in educational leadership and policy studies, attend an informational session Tuesday, Dec. 5, 9-11 a.m. in the Student Congress Chambers of the University Center.

On Wednesday, Dec. 6, UTA employees are encouraged to attend the men’s basketball game, which starts at 4 p.m. at College Park Center. Each faculty and staff member will receive up to four free tickets to the game. You can claim your tickets at the College Park Center Box Office on game day with your staff ID, or you can get them in advance through UTA Tickets. The basketball game is a team-building event that can allow employees to be released as early as 3 p.m. with manager approval.

Congratulations to the UTA Police Department
|
The UTA Police Department has received its sixth Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) Award, and for the first time in the department’s history, it has achieved the CALEA Accreditation with Excellence Award. To earn the award, the UTA Police Department had to meet all of the eligibility criteria and submit an application describing how its business model promotes progressive community engagement strategies, uses data as a tool for management decisions, repeatedly uses the accreditation model for outcomes management, and fills a leadership role among peer agencies.

The Department of Art and Art History is pleased to announce its Holiday Glass Art Sale and Fundraiser. Faculty, staff, and students can be among the first to explore and purchase pieces Friday, Dec. 8, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The general public sale will be Saturday, Dec. 9, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sale funds support UTA’s talented students, while also contributing to the advancement of the Department of Art and Art History.

Members of the U.S. military will conduct training in and around the Dallas-Fort Worth area Dec. 4-16. The training will consist of air and ground mobility operations and may include unoccupied facilities on the UTA campus. This is a planned exercise in cooperation with local authorities and is not in response to any current world events. Safety precautions are in place to protect participants and residents. Planning considerations have included minimizing impact to localities and the campus community.

| Volunteer for commencement

If you are interested and available, sign up to volunteer to assist with Fall Commencement, which will be Friday, Dec. 15, at Globe Life Field. Sign-up spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have questions about the volunteer roles, email Ryan Gilmore. Volunteers are invited to sign up for a tour of Globe Life Field that will start after volunteer training on Thursday, Dec. 14.

| Arlington nonprofits survey
|
The College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs (CAPPA) researchers are leading a study to help the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation better understand the needs of local nonprofit organizations. CAPPA Assistant Professor Emily Nwakpuda and CAPPA Professor Karabi Bezboruah are conducting the survey to gather information from the Arlington nonprofit sector on issues such as their workforce and volunteer base, outreach and program outcomes, clients’ unmet needs and how those needs may have changed since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Intercultural Student Engagement Center is now accepting events centered on educational and social issues, community building, and identity affirmation for the nationally recognized heritage and history months. Submissions will be included on a University graphic calendar marketed to the UTA community. Sign up now. The deadline to register an event for Black History Month is Wednesday, Dec. 20.
