Recognizing Excellent Educators |
|
|
|
The University’s E3 Framework, which proposes to give every student an Exceptional Educational Experience, is only possible through the work of exceptional educators. In the Martha Bradley Evans Center for Teaching Excellence, we want to thank you for the amazing work you’re doing to support student success throughout the year, both in the classroom and beyond. The work of all our instructors and TAs is critical to student success. Kudos to you and to all of the teaching award winners across campus. We are so proud to work with you all, every day.

Department of Justice Extends Title II of ADA Deadline for Meeting Digital Accessibility Requirements |
|
|
|
On Monday, April 20, 2026, the Department of Justice (“Department”) published an Interim Final Rule revising the regulations for implementing Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”). The revision extends the compliance date for the requirements for web content and mobile application (“app”) accessibility for institutions the size of the University of Utah from April 24, 2026, to April 26, 2027. In summary, the requirements have not changed; we just have more time to become compliant.
We know that many of you have already put in considerable work to meet the requirements of the law. We deeply appreciate your efforts and understand that this took significant time and energy. Please know that your work was not in vain, and that it will support access of learning materials for all students on campus.
What should University of Utah instructors do now?
|
-
Continue to update your Summer 2026, Fall 2026, and Spring 2027 course materials, websites, etc. to comply with WCAG 2.1. Doing so increases the accessibility of learning materials for ALL students, regardless of whether they have documented disabilities.
-
Comply with current federal law by supporting student accommodation requests from the Center for Disability and Access.
- Note that all materials for Summer 2027 (and subsequent terms) will be required to comply with the WCAG 2.1 guidelines indicated in the law.
-
Educate yourself about what the requirements entail. All resources, tutorials, and information about the requirements is available to instructors on CTE’s Accessibility Essentials site.
-
Utilize the cidiLabs Tools available in Canvas. These tools can help you spot potential problems with your materials and remedy them.
-
Ask for Help! After reviewing the resources on the Accessibility Essentials site, if you still have questions, you can also set up individual appointments with CTE consultants or email Digital Learning at classhelp@utah.edu. If you have additional questions, please email cte@utah.edu.

Important Information for Instructors |
|
|
|
Student Course Feedback
Student course feedback window for all regular term spring courses is April 22 - May 2. Direct reminders to your students (or time set aside during a final) remain one of the best ways to increase student response rates. Tell your students why student course feedback is important and how it is used to improve instruction and provide critical information for their own decision making. Students can access the course feedback link directly from their email or from a link on any Canvas course menu. For more information about student course feedback, how to access response rates and results, please visit the Student Course Feedback site on our CTE website.
Grading
The Spring Final Exam Period runs April 23-29. And on spring final grades must be posted by May 4.
Syllabus Posting
All syllabi for Summer 2026 should be posted one week before the first day of classes to satisfy requirements in both PPM 6-100 and USHE guidelines for HB261. For first term and full term summer courses, that date is May 4, 2026.

Share Summer Research Tours with your students!
The Office of Undergraduate Research is excited to offer Summer Research Tours, giving undergraduates an inside look at research happening across campus in a fun and accessible way. OUR tours are especially supportive of students who are new to research and provide a welcoming introduction to lab spaces and scholarly work at the U. Summer tours are open to all undergraduates—no prior research experience required, with particular outreach to new and prospective students, as well as their families and guests.
