What will happen during today's solar eclipse
During the total solar eclipse today, Monday, April 8, the moon will pass directly between the sun and the Earth. Since UTA is in the path of totality, Mavericks on campus will witness the moon’s shadow completely block the sun’s face for about four minutes, from 1:40 p.m. to nearly 1:44 p.m. Read the basics of the eclipse that Nilakshi Veerabathina, professor of instruction in physics, explains to her astronomy students.

Visit the Solar-bration webpage to read about activities happening across campus, including a pre-eclipse celebration and eclipse watch parties. From 1-2 p.m., classes and labs will be canceled, and non-essential University services will be paused. For real-time parking availability and guidance, use the UTA Parking Finder app at uta.edu/park.
It is not safe to look at the sun before or after the eclipse's totality without proper eye protection. There will be eclipse glasses available at viewing locations, while supplies last. Prime eclipse viewing locations include UTA Planetarium Mall, Brazos Park, University Center Mall, Library Mall, and Spaniolo Drive/College Park Center. Click here for a map of viewing locations.
