Speech and Debate
Saturday was a very good day for BMHS! The Battle Mountain Speech and Debate Team brought home the 1st Place Sweepstakes Trophy from the Eagle Valley Tournament where they matched wit and talent against a field of thirteen schools and 265 competitors. Finishing in first place were Phoenix Wellbaum in Original Oratory, Mars Arney in Program Oral Interpretation, Eva Isaacs in One on One Value Debate, Kai Thayer in Congressional Debate and Diana Gaffner in Informational Speaking. Finishing in Second Place were Rocco Romano in Informational Speaking, Silas Heaphy in Creative Storytelling, Riley Kasparaitis in Congressional Debate and Tiago Drago in Humorous Interpretation. Yarely Solorzano brought home third place in Informational Speaking securing the 1st, 2nd, 3rd Sweep in that event for the Huskies! A boat load of 4th - 6th place finishes helped the team to the overall Sweepstakes victory, proving Husky domination on the Field at the Podium and on the Stage :). Go Dawgs!

BMHS Accountability
The BMHS School Accountability Committee serves as an advisory committee to discuss particular topics each meeting, and to make evaluations and recommendations to the school. The committee is composed of 7 people (principal, lead, teacher, counselors, parents, PTA president, and community member), but anyone is welcome to join. We meet 6 times during the school year (approximately monthly) on Wednesdays at 9:30 am at Battle Mountain. The final schedule will be set soon. This is a fantastic way to learn in detail about happenings at the school. The next meeting will focus primarily on Standards Based Grading. Please reach out to Pavan Krueger, Committee lead, at pavan@kruegerarchitecture.com if you are interested in attending or receiving meeting notes.
