New website & Abortion landscape report
Dear Community,
Today marks National Constitution Day and National Registration Day - and what better way to honor our country’s rule of law and democracy than to shine a bright light on where the work remains. To that end, DOSW, in partnership with the Gender Equity Policy Institute, is proud to share our groundbreaking report, Preparing for An Uncertain Future in Post-Dobbs America: A Landscape Analysis of Abortion Care in the San Francisco Bay Area. This comprehensive analysis offers detailed insights into reproductive rights and abortion care across the nine Bay Area counties, as well as offers critical recommendations to safeguard access in this rapidly changing legal landscape. I encourage you to read the full report which can be accessed here.
Key highlights from the report include:
  • The Bay Area’s strong infrastructure for delivering high-quality abortion care, but also the strains it is beginning to face due to increasing demand in the post-Dobbs era.
  • A socioeconomic + demographic analysis showing Black & Latina women face huge disparities in income and access to reproductive healthcare compared to other groups.
  • Actionable recommendations for the Bay Area Abortion Rights Coalition (BAARC) to enhance regional coordination, security, education, and advocacy for reproductive care.
But wait, there’s more!... in addition to the landscape analysis, I am thrilled to announce the launch of our brand-new website, dosw.org. This updated site is now a central hub for all things DOSW - offering easy access to resources, programs, and our latest work. Explore the new features, including:
  • A user-friendly design that makes finding the information you need easier than ever.
  • A dedicated section to keep you updated on the latest reports, events, and initiatives.
  • Resources to connect with local services, community programs, and support networks in San Francisco and the Bay Area.
Our new website reflects our commitment to ensuring that women, girls and nonbinary people have access to the information, tools and resources they need to create opportunities, build pathways to healthy and prosperous futures -- and thrive!
All my best,
Kimberly Ellis, J.D.
