Astronaut Alum Kicks Off Duke SPACE Initiative
Duke launched the SPACE Initiative (Science and Policy to Advance Cosmic Exploration) on September 8, bringing together experts from across disciplines to study the cosmos and the policies shaping humanity’s future in space. The event featured astronaut and Duke alumna Anna Menon, who shared insights from her record-breaking Polaris Dawn mission and returned a Duke patch that traveled with her to space. More than 20 research teams presented projects spanning science, engineering, medicine and law, showcasing the initiative’s wide-ranging impact. Led by physics faculty Michael Troxel and Dan Scolnic, the initiative builds on existing collaborations to create new opportunities for research, education and innovation in space exploration.
