Emory University Chaplaincy Recap: Interim President Justice Leah Ward Sears Visits the Inter-Religious Council (IRC)
On Monday, February 23, 2026, the Emory Inter-Religious Council enjoyed a visit from our Interim University President, Justice Leah Ward Sears, where she joined in an interfaith dialogue centered on holidays and holy days. Since 1992, the Emory IRC’s mission has been to build and sustain a healthy, religiously pluralistic campus climate by networking our many religious communities, growing in religious literacy and interfaith leadership skills, and serving the larger campus and community through interfaith initiatives and programs.

Emory University Chaplaincy Recap: Ven. Priya Rakkhit Sraman Teaches at Georgia Buddhist Camp 
On Saturday, February 21, Emory Buddhist Chaplain Ven. Priya Rakkhit Sraman taught at the Georgia Buddhist Camp at Wat Lao Buddha Khanti. For 13 years, this camp has brought together dedicated monastics and practitioners who help to strengthen Buddhism in Georgia. The 2026 theme was The Joy of Kindness--and kindness was not just spoken of but practiced in stillness, listening, and shared community.

On Wednesday, February 25, Emory Jewish Chaplain Rabbi Jordan Braunig shared in leading a webinar on Interfaith Programming on Campus sponsored by the ADL Campus Team. The webinar shared insights and best practices, and also included Rev. Dr. Kirstin Boswell of Elon University, Rabbi Getzel Davis of Harvard University, and Dean Jerima DeWese of CUNY Queens College. Emory University Chaplaincy Recap: Lunch and Learn with Fr. Francis X. Clooney
On Thursday, February 26, over 60 Emory community members enjoyed a lunchtime book talk with Fr. Francis X. Clooney, Parkman Professor of Divinity at Harvard Divinity School, in which he talked about his journey and new book Hindu and Catholic, Priest and Scholar: A Love Story. Drawing on his decades of work across Christian and Hindu traditions, Clooney's memoir reflects on his personal faith, interreligious study, and immersive engagement with the Hindu tradition as a Jesuit priest. 
The event was sponsored by the Emory University Chaplaincy with the Aquinas Center of Theology, Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies, Department of Religion, and the Hindu Students Association.

Looking for a Lenten practice? Drop in to Cannon Chapel 106 on Wednesdays between noon-1:00 pm for a labyrinth walk. No experience with labyrinths is necessary. If you’re unfamiliar with this practice, Rev. Maddie will be present to offer guidance and have suggestions for how to walk the labyrinth. For those who are familiar, take this opportunity to have a meditative moment during this holy season.

Ramadan Weeknight Iftars
The Muslim month of Ramadan will span February 18 through March 19, 2026. During this time, Emory Muslim students, faculty, and staff will be observing with daily fasting from dawn through the sunlight hours and nightly iftar communal prayers and dinner. On Atlanta campus, Emory University Muslim Life will hold weeknight Ramadan Iftars in Cannon Chapel with fast-breaking, call to prayer, prayers, and a halal buffet dinner.
Emory Muslim students, faculty, and staff do not need to register, but guests should register by emailing Emory Muslim Chaplain Ustadh Dr. Rahimjon Abdugafurov. Co-sponsored with university leaders, Emory schools, student organizations, and other partners. Location changes will be shared on the Emory Muslim Life elist.

We're pleased to announce that we will host the inaugural Emory Climate Design Challenge, a 2-day design thinking workshop for current Emory University and Georgia Institute of Technology students, on April 10-11, 2026. Applications for students interested in participating are OPEN NOW through February 28th.

This immersive experience invites students to explore how circular systems influence climate-smart outcomes, economic value, and equity in Atlanta. Rather than treating climate as purely technical, the Challenge builds systems fluency through a real, place-based case.

Designed for students early or new to the climate space, you will learn by doing, reflecting, and collaborating through a hands-on design-jam format led by design thinking leader Jasmine K. Burton (MBA22) and professional luminaries. Students that complete the Challenge will receive a Circular Futures Certificate upon completion. Current Emory and Georgia Tech students (undergraduate and graduate) from all majors / disciplines are eligible to apply.

Eagle Food Pantry
Eagle Food Pantry and Donations
The Eagle Food Pantry is a free food pantry for Emory University Students housed at Bread Coffeehouse. We are open Fridays from 9 am-5 pm during the semester and can be found at 1227 Clifton Rd. Students can visit the pantry as many times as needed and there is no food limit. 

Donations can be made through our Amazon wishlist, our website, or dropped off at Bread Monday-Thursday 12-5 pm. Our most desired items are pasta, pasta sauce, oatmeal packets, peanut butter, jelly, granola bars, fruit cups, canned beans, canned veggies, and canned soup. Emory University Chaplaincy: Chaplain Office Hours in AMUC 125
Monday-Friday starting January 20, Noon-2 p.m., AMUC 125
Emory University Chaplaincy chaplains are available Monday through Friday from approximately Noon-2 pm during term in AMUC Suite 125 to offer pastoral care and have meetings with students, faculty, and staff. The general schedule is below and may vary semester to semester.

Ramadan
Wed., Feb. 18 – Wed., Mar. 18, 2026
Tradition: Islam
The Holy Month of Ramadan is the month of fasting during which Muslims who are physically able do not eat or drink from the first sign of dawn until sunset in honor of the first revelations to the Prophet Muhammad. The evening meal is celebrated with family.
Great Lent
Mon., Feb. 23 – Sat., Apr. 11, 2026
Tradition: Christianity-Orthodox
In Orthodox churches, the first day of Lent marks the beginning of the Great Fast, the final six weeks of a 10-week period leading up to Holy Week and Easter (Pascha). In the churches that follow the Gregorian calendar, Lent is a six-week observance (40 days excluding Sundays) beginning with Ash Wednesday and culminating in Holy Week. It is a time of repentance and sacrifice in preparation for Easter.
Nineteen Day Fast
Mon., Mar. 2 – Fri., Mar. 20, 2026
Tradition: Baha'i
A designated 19-day period of fasting each year immediately before the Bahá’í New Year. The fasting is seen as a period of spiritual preparation and regeneration for the new year ahead.
Purim
Mon., Mar. 2, 2026
Tradition: Judaism
Celebrates the rescue of the Jews of ancient Persia from a plot to destroy them as related in the Book of Esther, which is read at this time. Purim is a joyous holiday, celebrated by wearing costumes, giving gifts to friends, giving to the poor and socializing. Preceded by the Fast of Esther, Purim is a day of feasting.
Holi

Tradition: Hinduism
A joyous spring Hindu festival that is dedicated to Krishna in some parts of India; in other parts of India, it is dedicated to Kama, the God of Pleasure. People throw colored water or colored powder in celebration.
