Reminders Regarding UNC Retirement Plan Recordkeeper Transition
As a part of University Human Resources’ ongoing commitment to keep you informed about the transition from Fidelity and TIAA as the recordkeepers for UNC System-managed retirement plans to TIAA as the sole recordkeeper, UHR would like to remind you of some important updates.
Transition of Payroll Contributions
All payroll contributions for the UNC System-managed retirement plans transitioned to TIAA as of this month.
If you participate in the Optional Retirement Program and your plan vendor was Fidelity, your payroll contribution has automatically transitioned to TIAA. No action is required on your part.
For participants in the voluntary retirement plans — 403(b) or 457 — with Fidelity, your payroll contributions are now going to TIAA. The contribution amount remains the same as it was last month.
- If you wish to change your contribution or no longer contribute to a voluntary retirement plan, please submit an updated Salary Reduction Agreement to the benefits office in UHR by the Feb. 10 payroll changes deadline.

Put These Things on Your To-Do List
Please do the following anytime after Feb. 23:
- Register for online access with TIAA. If you do not have an online TIAA account, visit the TIAA website and register. Select “Login,” and then click “Need online access?” Follow the on-screen directions to access your account.
- Check your beneficiary information. To update your beneficiary information, log in to your online TIAA account. Once logged in, under the “Actions” tab, choose “Add/Edit” beneficiaries. From there, you can designate beneficiaries and select how much each should receive. You can change your beneficiary information again at any time.
- Review your investment choices. Review the investment lineups in the transition guide to understand how future contributions and/or account balances may transfer to your new TIAA account and make changes if needed.

In early April, Fidelity assets will be mapped to TIAA through an in-kind plan transfer. To facilitate this transfer, a blackout period will occur beginning March 25. Refer to the transition guide for detailed information about the fund-mapping process.
