Patricia Aufderheide gave a workshop for the Film and Media Studies Association of Canada on the logic, values and logistics of best practices professional codes, in company with one of Canada's renowned IP lawyers, Howard Knopf.
Filippo Trevisan gave an invited talk on ‘datafied’ disability stories for policy change at the Zero Conference at the United Nations offices in Vienna, Austria. Organized by the Essl Foundation and the Zero Project organization, and currently in its 10th year, the Zero Conference is the largest disability inclusion conference in the world bringing together leaders and innovators in government, business, philanthropy, civil society, research, and service provision organizations from over 100 countries to discuss and strategize the future of disability inclusion toward a ‘zero barriers’ world.
Kurt Braddock participated in a roundtable discussion related to anti-Semitism and rhetoric related to it. In the roundtable, which was put on by the Network for Responsible Public Policy, Kurt discussed how the proliferation and acceptance of hateful rhetoric -- anti-Semitic and otherwise -- normalizes its use, which in turn, increases the likelihood of violence against specific groups.
Andrew Phelps, Professor and Director of the AU Game Center, co-hosted and co-organized the IndieCADE HORIZONS conference on Feb 17th. The conference is a joint venture between IndieCADE (the largest independent game festival in the world), the Higher Education Video Game Alliance (HEVGA) (where Phelps serves as co-founder and president and which represents over 410 colleges and universities with games curriculum), and is supported by the Knight Foundation and the AARP, in addition to participating schools.
This year featured engagement from over 25 schools world wide, with premium-tier schools including: American University Game Center, Bradley University, Clark University, Becker School of Design and Technology, Falmouth University Games Academy, Miami University, Michigan State University, Northeastern University, NYU Game Center, Purdue University, the University of Miami Department of Interactive Media, and USC Games. Phelps was “on the ground” with the core conference organizers for a planning session for next year and logistics and speaker support at the School of Communication at the University of Miami in Florida.
