The 2024 Moores Cancer Center Annual Scientific Retreat
|
On September 4, 2024, the annual Moores Scientific Retreat brought together current and future scientists at the Scripps Seaside Forum to shape the future of cancer care. Almost 300 Moores Members were on hand to contribute to inter-programmatic and transdisciplinary thinking.
The retreat began with an introduction by UC San Diego Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences, John Carethers, MD and featured keynote addresses by Moores Director Diane M. Simeone, MD and UC San Diego Health, Chief Health AI Officer Karandeep Singh, MD. Presentations of breakthrough research were given by scientists from UCSD, LJI, and SDSU. In addition, the Moores Office of Translational Science facilitated networking sessions on topics ranging from immunotherapy to cancer disparities. Moreover, educational activities included the Jawsome Shark Tank Multidisciplinary Pilot Project Program and the Trainee Poster Session.
This year, Moores CCSG Early-Stage Clinical Investigator awardees were celebrated as outstanding first time principal investigators, and the retreat concluded with not only an opportunity drawing for participants, but also live music from the Adverse Events, a band comprising Moores oncologists Soo Park, MD, Greg Daniels, MD, PhD, Tyler Stewart, MD, and Fred Millard, MD.
