UTA has broken ground on Maverick Hall, a $116.2 million state-of-the-art student residence hall designed to meet the needs of our University’s growing student body. Maverick Hall will be UTA's largest and tallest residence hall, at 654 beds and five stories.

Watch the UTA baseball team take on Arizona State University at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, March 5, at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington. Faculty and staff can receive four free tickets to the game.

Celestial exhibit features ancient eclipse interpretations

KDFW reported that Kim Breuer, history professor at UTA, and a team of experts in the library’s Special Collections department are gearing up for April 8 when the next total eclipse will cross North Texas. They have a collection of celestial maps and centuries-old texts describing eclipses that date back to the 16th century.

Maverick Speakers Series

International award-winning photographer Platon, who has shot portraits for a wide range of publications, is the next speaker at UTA's Maverick Speakers Series. Platon will present “Powerful Portraits” at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, March 5, at Texas Hall. Tickets to see Platon are free for students, faculty, and staff, and $5 for the community.

Donate canned goods

On Wednesday, March 6, UTA Ambassadors and UTA Student Organizations will come together to make artwork out of canned goods. All the cans will be donated to Maverick Pantry post completion of the event. Donations will be accepted at UTA spirit week events.

Discover Open Educational Resources at UTA in an engaging hybrid event Wednesday, March 6, 12-1 p.m. in Central Library 315A and online. The presentation will inspire and inform educators, librarians, and anyone interested in the open education movement with lessons learned and strategies for success.

Members of Native American tribes from across Texas and Oklahoma gathered on Saturday at UTA for one of the biggest powwows in Texas, which was covered by KXTV. The 28th annual Scholarship Benefit Powwow was hosted by UTA’s Native American Student Association, which is the longest-running Native student group in Texas.

UTA bookstore

Bookstore to close early on Friday

The UTA Bookstore will close at noon on Friday, March 8, for inventory, but you can still purchase items at www.utashop.com. The bookstore will reopen its physical location on Monday, March 11.

A come-and-go open house event will be held to highlight biomedical research at the UTA Research Institute and the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center on Friday, March 8, 1-4 p.m. at 7300 Jack Newell Boulevard South in Fort Worth. Register here.

Kia/Hyundai Software Update Event

Learning how to combat vehicle theft

The Arlington Police Department is strongly encouraging anyone with a Kia or Hyundai with a turn-to-start ignition to attend an event that offers free software updates for theft prevention. The event will be Saturday, March 16, 9 a.m-4 p.m. at Dan Dipert Career and Technical Center, 2101 Browning Drive in Arlington. The update will raise the level of difficulty for stealing vehicles via the “Kia Challenge” that went viral on social media.

RSVP to attend a workshop that provides an overview of service learning and ways to integrate it into a course. The workshop will be held Friday, March 22, 1-3 p.m. in Trinity Hall, Room 105.

UTA Network security enforcement

OIT is enabling network security enforcement on all UTA-owned and -managed Windows and Mac devices connected to the UTA campus network over the next two months. This work is part of the Network Access Control project. Enforcement will be conducted building by building as outlined in the enforcement schedule. Devices that do not meet security compliance standards will be quarantined and unable to access UTA resources. If your device is impacted, you will receive a pop-up approximately one week in advance.

First year and senior students: take the NSSE Survey and you could win a $100 Amazon Gift Card, UTA

Encourage students to take the NSEE

Senior or first-year students who complete the 15-minute National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) are eligible to enter a drawing for one of 20 Amazon gift cards worth $100 each. The survey will be available until Monday, May 13. Students will receive an initial email invitation followed by reminders directly from NSSE with unique links to the survey. NSSE data is used by colleges and programs to gain insight on how students utilize their time and resources, how challenged and supported they feel at UTA, and how much they perceive to have grown personally and academically as a result of their college attendance.
