UTA researcher seeks new answers to brain disorders
|
Xi Zhu, a bioengineering professor who leads a lab studying AI and brain imaging at UTA, has received over $4.5 million in grant money from the National Institutes of Health.
Why it matters: Dr. Zhu's work uses neuroimaging and artificial intelligence to study brain disorders and brain development. She is the lead investigator on a $3.45 million research grant examining post-traumatic stress disorder, major depressive disorder, and anxiety.
Going deeper: Using artificial intelligence and machine learning, Zhu can find consistent brain patterns linked to disease worldwide and then test their usefulness in local clinical trials. This strategy ensures that discoveries are both scientifically robust and meaningful for patients.

Maverick Wellness is offering three convenient clinic dates this fall where UTA employees, dependents, and retirees can receive their annual vaccinations.
Why it matters: Vaccination lowers the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death from flu or COVID—and reduces symptoms if you do become sick. Annual vaccines are the best prevention against flu, COVID, and their related complications.
Important information: There will be three sessions held at the Maverick Activities Center Thursday, Oct. 9; Thursday, Oct. 23; and Friday, Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Register online today! There are less than 400 appointment slots available—first come, first served. Questions or accommodations? Email Human Resources.
Vaccinations offered include High-Dose Flu (65+), Flu, COVID, RSV (ages 50–64), and additional optional vaccines available during registration.
