The Buddhist Campus Chaplaincy Sourcebook
Chapter by Emory Buddhist Chaplain Ven. Priya Rakkhit Sraman, "Nurturing a Culture of Spiritual Friendship and Intentional Community"

The Buddhist Chaplaincy  Sourcebook presents research, analysis, case studies, and additional resources for the professional practice of Buddhist spiritual care focussed on students and colleagues in post-secondary educational institutions. The college and university years have traditionally been a time of transformation for young people: meaning-making; finding one’s community; building life, work and relationship skills; and metamorphosis from a child to an adult. Today, the post-secondary journey has been further complicated by climate anxiety, geopolitical uncertainty, the changing role of the academy in society, financial and legal pressures on educational institutions, and more. Celebrating Emory OSRL Chaplain Resident Jaeun Koo
We want to take a moment to recognize Jaeun Koo for her invaluable work in the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life. First as a chaplain intern and then as a chaplain resident, Jaeun has worked closely with Beloved Community and Christian Life since August 2023. In her role, she helped grow attendance at worship and Bible study, develop student leaders, and provided pastoral care to many students. Through her teaching, preaching, vision, humor, and presence, Jaeun has been a key member of Beloved Community. We will miss her greatly as she begins her next adventure, and we’re thrilled she’ll be close by during her PhD studies in the Graduate Division of Religion within Laney Graduate School.
We will honor Jaeun’s contributions to OSRL this Sunday, April 27 at 11 a.m. during Beloved Community at Cannon Chapel. If you would like to share a note of thanks with Jaeun, please email Rev. Maddie at mhend25@emory.edu and she’ll ensure Jaeun receives the message.

How can we share key elements of his call for “moral grandeur and spiritual audacity” with younger people seeking to engage in spirituality grounded activism? What might Heschel have to say to the next generation?
