Augusta University has been invited to nominate one individual to apply for the 2027 Searle Scholars Program (SSP). This program is offering up to fifteen (15) awards aimed specifically at recently appointed assistant professors on a tenure-track and is designed to support high risk, high reward research across a wide range of scientific disciplines.
The SSP does not ordinarily support programs that are exclusively clinical research; however, it has supported research programs that include both clinical and basic science components.
ELIGIBILITY
Pursuing independent research careers in biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, pharmacology, and related areas in chemistry, medicine, and the biological sciences.
Begun their appointment as an independent investigator at the assistant professor level on or after May 1, 2025. The appointment must be their first tenure-track position (or its nearest equivalent) at an invited institution.
SUPPORT
Grants are $300,000 over a three-year term ($100,000 /year).

Internal applications are due by close of business (5:00 pm) on August 3, 2026.
If more than one proposal is received, selection of the proposal to be submitted to the SSP will be based on the recommendations of a review committee organized for that purpose.
